It’s nonsense to claim “this street doesn’t need a bike lane because no one cycles there.”

If you build a bike lane, *more people will cycle.*

Would you decide whether to build a bridge by counting the people swimming across a river?

Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been sitting in a Salvadoran prison for over a month because the Trump Admin made a mistake.

Now, the Admin is defying SCOTUS & refusing to bring him back.

If we allow Trump to violate Kilmar's rights, none of our rights are safe.

Kilmar is all of us.
BREAKING

The President of El Salvador says he will not be releasing Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

“How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States?”

The Supreme Court recently ordered the Trump administration to facilitate his return.

(Abrego-Garcia was never convicted of terrorism)

Let’s be clear. When the President defies the Supreme Court, it is the role of Congress to remove him from office. Full stop.

No better way to fall in love with Portland all over again than to ride a bike (or stroll or roll) along the river on a day like today. Get out there and do that. Life is too precious to squander opportunities to experience beauty this way.

Trump said again he’s open to sending U.S. citizens to a Salvadoran prison. There is no constitutional basis for this—such an act would be a direct violation of the Constitution.

Cities with dedicated bike lanes had 44% fewer deaths and 50% fewer serious injuries than the average American city, partly because that infrastructure tended to slow traffic down slightly.

(*PDX knew this a decade ago when we passed multiple Council / Metro plans to make it possible for us to make to 25% of all trips by bike by 2030.)

I guess what I'm saying is we should fund public transit more.
According to Cox Automotive's Kelly Blue Book, the average cost of a new car is $47,577. By continuing to under fund public transit, we require Oregonians to spend thousands to buy and maintain a depreciating asset to leave their own homes.

Good public transit provides choice and freedom. #orleg

Deporting American citizens—even those with criminal records—to foreign prisons is unconstitutional and violates core due process protections. The White House has stated it will decide who qualifies for deportation. Will protesting eventually be deemed a crime—and a deportable offense?

Trump tariffs are an average effective tax of $4600 / year / household.

They’re also ruining retirement dreams and college savings plans.

Basically, reducing everybody’s livelihoods for no particular reason.
• Prices rise 2.8% in the short-run, the equivalent of $4,600 per household annually in 2024$
• The unemployment rate rises 0.6pp by 2025 Q4, & payroll employment is -760K lower.
• US GDP is persistently 0.7% smaller in the long-run, equiv. to -$200bn in 2024$.

Anarchism for Knitters by Anna Zilboorg is turning out to be a great read - a treatise on understanding a craft thoroughly enough to place your own enjoyment of making above the rules, patterns conventions, norms etc. of the craft. I think that lesson can be applied much more broadly.

Grief + ppd/ppa sucks ass, guys. I'm real tired of being hyper focused on mortality and the fragility of human life at all times, especially while the worst people, literal villains, dismantle our government... and yet they keep breathing and seem exempt from suffering and all consequences.

Imagine a middleschool classroom with a sub the kids don't respect, imagine that sub directing those kids to do anything and meeting with complete dismissal. Our leaders need to channel some angry 13 year old energy and stop legitimizing these bastards. The rules don't matter anymore, stop complying

I'm so tired of everything being hard and heavy, sad and scary. I want to count birds and sketch clouds, and touch moss. I want to drink a hot creamy coffee and wander through a forest in light misty rain and take photos while chatting with a friend. It's also just too...everything to make it happen
