been reading will of the many and it's the first fantasy book in almost a decade that feels impossible to put down. no bullshit romance, no unfiltered author retaliating against some weird family baggage in the form of a very stereotypical main character, really good worldbuilding, etc.

it's not as simple as "hardware has gotten better, software has gotten worse" because a lot of companies making physical devices are lost in the wilderness from a design perspective, but a rule of thumb that anything that charges you monthly gets worse over time works pretty well

i think it's useful to look at areas where the *tech* has gotten much better while tech *interactions* have gotten way worse. streaming has gotten worse, google search has gotten worse, digital cameras are leaps better. apple's silicone is so good it's threatening their user upgrade cycle
it’s so weird to look around and realize like, tech and media are materially worse than a decade ago

probably too controversial for Bluesky but imo we really need to move past the “ai is bad and is stealing” phase and accept it’s here to stay and figure out how we set up guardrails to protect each other and limit use of it through spending and engagement habits

anyways doesn’t change that shb+ew is probably the finest fictional experience of the last damn decade. I don’t think anything has remotely hit as hard as those stories did, especially given the hours poured in. ishikawa is jRPG’s semi secret treasure I hope she gets more chances to write soon
