Just reupping this from the time we made an attempted at single-family zoning reform in PV. It failed, but we learned a lot and so did neighboring cities.
If anybody's interested! Gave a talk a few years back. Most zoning heads won't find a whole lot new about this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nCg...

First round it was covid. Second round it's blast your GI Tract mega E.Coli. Hits keep coming under Trump admins.
These stories landed today, within 11 hours of each other.

This presidential administration is a clear and present danger to the American people.

Oh look another mailer in PV from a dark money 501c4 that says the city risks "becoming an urban core."

Guess we're doing dog whistles in PV again this election cycle.

Yo it's a good year to visit Disney world. Short lines!
NEW 🧵

The number of people travelling from Europe to the US in recent weeks has plummeted by as much as 35%, as travellers have cancelled plans in response to Trump’s policies and rhetoric, and horror stories from the border.

If you want some hope in the dark in the KC area, I think most of what happened in the Jackson County municipals is pretty good.

“McDonalds workers in Denmark make more than Honda workers in Alabama” is such a key point. It’s the institutions, stupid.

Oh come on it can’t be that big of a drop in WHOA.
Playing around with CBP airport processing data this morning to see how much air travel by non-US passengers is cratering.

Same shit they did with gay people. Different year.
NEW: After cancelling nearly all projects on trans health, the Trump admin has now directed the NIH to study the negative consequences of transitioning.

This will create “a distorted research ecosystem where only politically favorable findings are permitted to exist”, researcher Harry Barbee says.
Exclusive: Trump White House directs NIH to study ‘regret’ after transgender people transition

Watching the #ksleg House Health and Human Services committee debate the anti-trans bill today. The proponents have got to be some of the worst people I've seen deliberate a topic on a dais, ever. They shouldn't be deliberating anything, much less youth healthcare access.

Capitalists are dumb as hell sometimes
“I feel liberated,” said a top banker. “We can say ‘retard’ and ‘pussy’ without the fear of getting cancelled . . . it’s a new dawn.”

Business in the age of Trump. Sounds liberating.

A big thing I've noticed in local politics is the willingness of toxic groups of people to abuse moderation tools on nearly even platform to shut down discussion they don't like. 1/

I mean, put the crazy tax cuts your party did back on the table so we can get some semblance of revenue back
Rand Paul: I'm for looking at the entitlements, the waste, everything because it's such an enormous problem that if you put military off the table, you put entitlements off the table, all you have left is 16% of the budget. If you eliminate that, you don't get anywhere close..

The reactionary politics that have emerged in Prairie Village post-zoning reform discussion are astounding. The anti-reform group (PV United) has morphed into a fairly reactionary group that is just opposed to any kind of public investment now. Very unfortunate.
