OK, so the BBC has been caught out by one ultra-right faction, fabricating propaganda against them on behalf of another ultra-right faction. What about all the anti-left propaganda over the years, and - even more galling - the incessant anti-Scottish-independence propaganda on BBC Scotland?

1. This is a thread on freedom, and how easy it is to lose.

Over the past 2,000 years in Europe, there have been few periods and places of freedom. For much of the time we lived under highly oppressive tyrannies of various kinds, whether small or grand, local or imperial, secular or religious.🧵

Billy Henderson was a fantastic singer and musician in the folk revival; he was a local poet, writing great songs in Scots and in English; and he was also a good friend of mine. I'm pleased to say that his work is now available in this new website: billyhenderson.co.uk

Even with limited powers, we’ve made real progress in Scotland - the only part of the UK where child poverty is falling.

But Westminster’s failed Thatcherite policies are leaving too many Scots struggling.

Let’s build a fairer society with independence.

No sudden rupture is now required for the far right to take power in this country. For what we're seeing is a steady normalisation of extremists by the Conservative and Labour Parties, BBC, Telegraph, Mail and others. A shift once considered unthinkable beings to look acceptable, even inevitable.🧵

"Davey refuses to rule out deal with Starmer to stop Reform winning power" (Sky News) In case any Scottish voters (like, in the Northern Isles) were in any doubt, here's the proof that all three (Con, Lab and Lib) are a Uniparty of Unionist Tories. Only SNP will do right by Scotland - by you and me.

One of the many reasons why Brexit happened. And they're all similar reasons - all to afford greater opportunities for the already-rich to become even richer, at the expense of the rest of us.
UK could raise £2bn by taxing SUVs in line with European countries.

Why do so many people want giant SUVs? They damage roads, create more pollution, cause more serious injuries and take up bigger parking spaces.

UK buyers pay 20 times less tax than in other European countries.

Tax them.

Good.
Gaelic is on the verge of extinction. The rural housing crisis caused by an explosion of second homes & buy-to-lets is one of the major driving forces.

Next week MSPs will vote on my proposal to increase the tax rate on those buying second homes in communities where Gaelic is still widely spoken.

Millions of us vote - in the UK, in the EU, in the US - and at the end of the day it comes down to one individual, like a Trump or a Netanyahu, saying, "No, I'm not doing that; I'm doing this." How is that democracy?
