Retired software / eCommerce engineer, tired of seeing too many people/companies whose judgement is so poor that they still use Meta, Inc products in 2026.
At least Free Speech has returned to Australia 👍. Now that Meta, Inc. can't censor everything. As far as the USA, not so much. Unfortunately it only applies to those under age 16, but it is a start. www.reuters.com/legal/litiga...

If you have been following @jeffhorwitz.bsky.social since 2021 like I have, you would probably have known back then that giving your data to Meta by using FB or Ig is probably the most irresponsible thing you can do. Thank you for your continued work on this, Jeff!

For the first time ever, I had to make a payment in crypto.

I can now confidently say that crypto payments combine the speed of a dial up modem and the ease of updating the drivers on a 1998 HP Laserjet printer.

All blew the whistle against Meta for putting profits over people’s safety.

Profiles in courage.

Four years ago, pre GenAI, someone showed me some stunning photos of ravens they'd taken. Among the most beautiful wildlife portraits I've seen. And they refused to put them even on a website because they didn't "want a tech company to steal them."

I rolled my eyes. I think about that now and then.

I can't be the only one who remembers the Facebook Papers when Frances Haugen made a bunch of internal documents public showing the company knew it was, among many other nightmarish things, encouraging suicidal ideation in teen girls

Eg: www.npr.org/2021/10/25/1...
had to read the article to understand wtf was going on here which is that Meta is literally feeding Instagram pictures parents took of their teenage daughters to middle aged men as ads for Threads
“Meta has used back-to-school pictures of schoolgirls to advertise one of its social media platforms to a 37-year-old man, in a move parents described as “outrageous” and “upsetting.”

Meta has 100% stopped even *pretending* not to be astoundingly evil.

A general journalism thought I've been having since jumping to Reuters: Part of responsibly covering things (tech, politics, wars, etc) is not sanitizing the details.

It's important that people know that the images Meta AI was/is creating are more than "provocative."

My eds over here get that.

Fearing that Meta’s chatbots were too boring, Mark Zuckerberg ordered they be given more human-like traits. That rebuke led to a loosening of boundaries -- and the launch of digital companions that Meta knew could produce sex role-play content for children.
