#introduction 🧵 👋 Going pseudonymous on the internet again. Feels important to me to shed identities, like chapters to my life.
The problem with app passwords isn't security, it's UX
App passwords and OAuth with the scope transition:generic are the same level of permissions 👀.

The new OAuth scopes does fix this and make OAuth the obviously better solution, but it’s still interesting to think on

Upset to realize that @teal.fm only reads from last.fm directly and doesn't support libre.fm or scrobbling directly to piper 😢

Time for a mid-month #ProtocolsForPublishers newsletter! Packed to the brim with information at the cross-section of open protocols and web publishing.

This edition features AI getting news wrong but more people using it, community building, and witches!

Platforms, Power, Paywalls, and Podcasts
This edition of the newsletter is a bit of a catch-up on links since we have been busy with outreach to potential speakers, participants, and sponsors for the second in-person Protocols for Publishers...

Browser extension, published! (pending review)
Landing page, deployed!
Logo commissioned!

Can't believe I'm about to launch an app ^^
I hope people like it, there's still *so* much that needs to be done.

I feel in need of more motivation, hence launch lmao

Really wish I could've been there
Do you have a half-baked idea for tinkering with your personal knowledge management system #pkm? Maybe it's an idea for an #Obsidian plugin, local #RAG over your notes, or a much overdue Notion database rehaul? Stop by at the #ToolsForThought hack day on Sunday, November 16th.

Very indicative of just how far @:// has to go from an understanding point of view.
Zach is a smart person! They're pretty technical! They still didnt know they were actively posing a question answered by their very post! We already live in this world and you're using the very protocol you describe!
Do you think there's a world, that didn't happen, in which social media was built into an internet protocol?

So, meaning... individuals release comments, blogs, video, music, etc from a single source. And then social media acts as the feed, not the host. Similar to how RSS worked, and email works.

Thinking of opening up seams.so (not ready yet) to "early access alpha"

It's hypothes.is on the atmosphere. anybody wanna try it out and give me feedback?

I got a simple backend built and am almost ready to launch beta, see what people do with it, what they want from it.

This is so fucking sick!!!
Endgame in sight

I wanna do basically this, but unfortunately I'm compelled to recreate some of the pieces so... Good luck to me? lol
We can just do things. Thanks to the work of @atproto.com @atprotocol.dev @sri.xyz @juli.ee @leaflet.pub @awarm.space @schlage.town @cozylittle.house and @danabra.mov for the tools and inspiration to actually get this to work. I am merely a vessel for copypasta coding.

Ha, this is pretty much how I work and I didn't realise it was a cultural thing, but that's why you see me popping up everywhere:

Unfortunately @slices.network isn't quite ready for prime time so I'm gonna have to build my own backend to launch seams. This pushes back the launch date.

Maybe pull a @cosmik.network semble and only index things that come from the app for now, and worry about backfill/live index later...

subconscious on atproto!! this idea keeps coming up too.

I'm getting there, still gotta level up a bit more before I'm ready to develop it.

I think there's a few other attempts on going too

Sorry, not convinced this is true. Nutritional value of food has been in free fall lately.

Beauty has been eradicated from public infrastructure.

Water though? Water is a sacred commodity that we have in such abundance people mistake it for being free. Praise water.
even within your own lifetime it is difficult to recall how much better everything you eat, drink, and touch is than it used to be
It is genuinely hard for most people to grasp how poor the past was.

A good government builds and funds great infrastructure to allow private businesses to thrive. This was the entire point of Obama’s “you didn’t build that” speech. The private sector forgets and/or denies this at their peril.
So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!
