U.S. billionaire financier of Cabot Links golf resort in Cape Breton is Trumpian climate denier, Mike Keiser. Now the Cabot Group wants to take West Mabou Beach provincial park for a 3rd luxury golf course in Inverness, Nova Scotia. Keiser originally got his hands on the Cabot Links land for $1. 🧵

In 2023/24 Eastern Passage paid $12.1 million in taxes.

This year, the RCMP are asking for a community office in the passage. Just the six RCMP officers will cost $1,216,026.
I did the math on the before heading out to see the sunrise.

Rural rate payers generate a total of $95m in revenue.

The RCMP rural policing share of the budget is $33m (35%)

In contrast, non-rural rate payers generate $815, and Halifax Police costs $108m (13%).
I think part of it is that when you spend money in a concentrated area, you can see it.

Like, the Halifax budget contribution to the RCMP for rural policing ($33m) exceeds the total revenue of any one of the rural districts (e.g., D1 generates $31m, D2 $28m, etc).

Police continue to offer no evidence based rational for increases to their already inflated budgets.
Will it be rubber stamped again this year?

Pathetic, harmful, elitist, anti-democratic. Should we expect anything else from someone who is okay with genocide?
Liberal MP Shannon Miedema called the police on peaceful protestors outside her office, who were asking for her support to stop the illegal Israeli blockade in Gaza and kidnapping of humanitarian volunteers.

The fact that 180 tenants lost their homes in the Sackville fire is horrifying enough.

But the current housing market is going to compound the tragedy: where is there for these people, disproportionately older and retired, to go?

NS needs affordable housing and controlled rents now.

We may have rescinded the 50K but we still paid huge dollars for the extreme, unjustified police presence. Has there ever been that many totally geared up cops for anything before ?
I contacted #Halifax communications and the city WILL NOT be giving the $50,000 to the Davis Cup.

Take a listen and if you're someone who's serious about reconciliation maybe send council a letter explaining that refusing to support a residential school youth empowerment event and throwing money at the Davis Cup (which 100% doesn’t need more money) positions them as pro-genocide.
You know it's a moday in Halifax when there's a new Grand Parade episode out! This week has it all from speed humps to sportswashing genocide.

Note to HRM Councillors. Whenever your vote is the same as the Mayor's, you are on the side of wrong.

Totally disgusted by every HRM Councillor and Mayor What's His Face, who voted to give $50,000 to the Tennis Match. Can't even say no to #genocide.

Every single one of them told me they regretted calling the cops anyway.

The growing number of communities that are creating civilian (non-police) crisis response programs is a direct product of the defund the police movement. Although police budgets are increasing everywhere, this monumental shift in service delivery is still a major win for the community. ✨️
