Loved this take. Not against AI as a tool, don’t want to lose what “good” looks like, and ultimately looking for like-minded people who want a high quality web.
Back when I was finding my feet in tech everybody was buzzing about building positive change. Somewhere along the way, something changed. Fortunately for us though, tech is not the first industry forced to defend itself against dubious practices.

What might we learn if we were to look elsewhere?
Looking elsewhere - Robb Owen
Against the backdrop of mass layoffs, LLMs, site-builders and vibe coding what does it mean to conscientiously build for the web, and where do we go from here?

Read this off a @swyx.io blog / freeCodeCamp interview from a while back, in the depth of the footnotes. No Zero Days. Loved it.

How long has the `prefers-reduced-data` media query been in consideration?

I like the idea of the web respecting my system settings, rather than me having to change my settings on every. single. site.

Sometimes I’m running in low power mode and I want what I’m browsing doing less too.

I really wish Slack would let me visually shrink the link preview without deleting it.
Right now on mobile, it takes up 50%+ of the screen and I end up ignoring it like an ad

Still a favorite photo I’ve taken from a while back. Guess which one is the Figma design and which one is the production site?

Started messing with fragment shaders the last few days. Got something going quicker than I thought with Windsurf. Turns out AI is pretty good at helping you figure out the basics.

Just released a new version of the Astro Bluesky content loader. This lets you load all of your posts (or anyone's) into Astro content collections at build time.
- Create a local mirror of your posts
- Generate a micro-blog from them

There are true gems hidden among the countless personal blogs scattered across the Internet.

I wish there were a curated library with only great articles on a wide variety of topics—a kind of search engine stripped of all the clutter: no SEO gimmicks, no ads, just quality content.
I feel this with blogging. In case anyone needed to hear this—you can just write and publish on your blog because you want to. No metrics. No clout.

This has always been my guiding principle with my blog (Pawlean.com) which is why 357 posts later, I’m still here. Even if NOBODY reads 😁

The smartest tech founder is My Space Tom:
- Founds MySpace
- Sells for $580 million
- Lives his life in anonymity

“Anderson is content to let his inspiration guide him rather than jumping back into the tech world because of the expectations of others.”
Myspace Co-Founder Tom Anderson's New Life as a Landscape Photographer
Tom Anderson is an astonishingly good landscape photographer, for a guy who's arguably most recognizable from a grainy, postage-stamp sized photo on Myspace. That's right: Tom, everyone's first friend...

CSS only balance slider ☕️

the trick: a scroll-driven animation on the [type=range] thumb that updates custom property values which are then used in a counter for the labels and to style the bar

(few lines of JavaScript to "polyfill" it)

Help yourself to this little SVG+CSS flutter effect for your links to your @bsky.app account.

(Psst. And publish the links to your @bsky.app account)
