I love this!! I find it so interesting to trace how certain foods/ingredients become a central part of certain cultures over time. It’s so exciting to learn about different cuisines, what inspired these dishes and how this affects people’s diets as well!

These corn bread muffins take just 10 minutes to prepare to pop into the oven. Super moist, not crumby, and so tasty they can be eaten plain.

I love how this connects perfectly to the this time of year! I think breaking down myths is so interesting because it shows how biased/trusting we are when it comes to how food products are marketed to us. As always, researching food and ingredients is so essential!! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This is so important because unless they’ve studied nutrition and health (and the meaning of food labels), not many people know the difference between these terms, what they mean, and how their health is affected. It’s always important to know what we’re consuming! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

The way his doctor addressed his weight concern was rude and made him feel insecure. His frequent chest pains were concerning and went undermined. Healthcare providers should be supportive in their patient’s journey and ensure they are making safe and healthy choices.

This is a great example of why researching what we’re consuming is important! We are often quick to make our own judgements when we hear words such as “processed,” but this does not necessarily make foods unhealthy. Certain aspects of foods are what makes them healthy! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Something that stood out to me was the stereotype that certain countries don’t have people who struggle with obesity. The healthcare field is diverse. Thus, it’s important for providers to recognize and abolish bias to avoid hurting patients and hindering their care. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This is such an interesting read, and one that highlights the importance of research and understanding what you’re actually buying. Labels can be deceiving and carefully written to sound healthy or trustworthy. It’s important to know what you’re consuming!! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I think my biggest barrier to healthy eating is a lack of time to plan. As I’m often busy with classes and work, I usually don’t plan out meals or snacks, and might lean towards whatever is convenient whenever I’m hungry. I think sticking to a routine will be helpful! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I love that this shows the versatility of healthy foods! Various options are available to incorporate healthy food into diets based on preferences. I also love how informative the article is. It not only shares recipes, but benefits of adding oats to your diet as well. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This article claims Vitamin D supplements can slow your aging. It’s interesting to see all the benefits vitamins have, but we must also keep in mind that consuming supplements can be dangerous if you have certain medical conditions!

I think these foods are easy to access, so they will be a simple and effective addition into meals— and will benefit towards reducing cholesterol overall!! I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of these foods, so I’ll likely have to motivate myself with the health benefits. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I’ve been trying to fix my sleep schedule and go to bed earlier since I’m often up late working/catching up on studying and I can feel the effects. I think this graphic provides simple but effective motivation to do so! These are good reasons to share and keep in mind! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I looked into the Atkins fad diet which focuses on low-carb and high-protein/high-fat intake to switch the source of fuel away from carbs. A question I had is how does this diet affect daily energy levels? Also, how does this diet affect someone’s hunger stimulus? #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I think this is so important to note! Just because healthy food options exist doesn’t mean that everyone has the means or money to access them! Healthy food are expensive, and they need to be cost-efficient if we want to see people take health into consideration. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Pasta is often my go to meal. An easy way to make it more nutrient dense is by using whole grain pasta instead of white pasta for higher fiber intake. I could also try adding protein such as chicken or eggs, and veggies like broccoli or carrots to increase vitamin intake. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This is why it’s important to note that reading labels matter! We often buy things without taking the time to see what they contain. Just because something is assumed to be healthy, doesn’t mean it is! Labels can trick us into perceiving something as healthy. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Tracking major meals is easier since they’re similar on a day to day basis. I don’t think I recalled all the things I ate perfectly, however I noticed I eat a more balanced diet now compared to a year or so ago when I did a similar project for a nutrition science class. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I’ve heard this being said plenty of times and I couldn’t agree more! Educating ourselves on various food groups and the benefits/risks of each is so important! Without research, we will start to believe rumors and assumptions that may affect our nutrition overall. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
"Omg fruit is full of sugar and so bad for you!" Have you considered that it's also full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber? And a fun fact is that our bodies need these nutrients so no, it's not the same as eating something like ice cream. Not that anything is wrong with ice cream.

Whole grains are healthier to eat because they contain the bran and germ, which provide fiber and essential nutrients to the body. These crucial nutrients are typically lost when grains are processed (aka refined), resulting in reduced benefits of carbohydrate intake. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Yes, nutrition can be tailored to your personal preferences! I think a lot of people are steered away because they think they need to uphold very specific diets of things they don’t like. You have many options to pick and choose what you’d like and what’s best for you!! 😌 #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
The trolls love to say "Don't listen to her about nutrition - you might end up looking like her." But I'm not telling you to eat like me (that would be silly; you're not me & I don't know enough about you)

But as instructional as I get is to say -- be wary of instructional one size fits all advice.
