Stubbornly optimistic despite horror of Brexit and all its siblings. Pro-NHS, pro-Labour, anti-hysteria. More thoughts as they come in

“Labour are total bastards. They’ve caused all the problems of the past 2000 years.

Just paraphrasing UK media, including BBC

Does anyone remember this kind of coverage of Tories, when, for 14 yrs, they were lying through their teeth, directing untold billions of public money to their friends etc?

I'm absolutely bloody sick of self-appointed "patriots" claiming to adore Britain while trying to destroy our national institutions – including, this week, our world-revered public broadcaster.

The ‘patriots’ who loathe Britain
They claim to love our country, but want to destroy all its institutions...

Still getting frustrated by people whose 1st response to ANYTHING positive is to come back with something negative or to talk down the positive news.

Is that really what you want to be? Someone who sucks the joy out of life at every opportunity. Who is just gloomy & miserable all the time. Really?

We flounced out of the EU on the say-so of politicians who lied to us. And what a total shitshow that’s turned out to be. The polar opposite of what they promised. Now the call to flounce out of the ECHR. By the same people. Telling the same lies. Has the country been kicked in the head by a horse?

I honestly believe everyone needs to stop and consider how far @suedehq.bsky.social have raised the bar for older bands in their second existence. Antidepressants is a 10/10, and so were their three albums before it. Suede sound like they're winding UP, not down. And you won't see a better live act.

Where has this ludicrous ECHR "debate" even come from.

I've never once met an ordinary member of the public who's said to me, "Do you know what? We REALLY need to leave the ECHR."

It's just a new right wing talking point because every other shit idea they've foisted on us has run out of steam.

A reminder: Asylum seekers are in hotels because of a huge application backlog that the gov't must work through. Robert Jenrick - now, bursting with creative solutions - processed applications slowly ***on purpose*** as a deterrent.

Here he is, as Immigration Minister two years ago, saying so. ~AA

Here's a fact for you all.

Prior to 2017 there was not a single documented case of any individual travelling by small boats across the English Channel to caim asylum in the UK.

Not ONE.

This current 'boats' crisis has been largely caused by Brexit.

But for some reason NOBODY is saying that.

Having to stay away from politics for a bit. I need new podcast suggestions. Not keen on comedy podcasts or random celeb chat etc. I love anything conspiracy theory or things that give some context to where we are today. True crime also fine!

Would very much like “heading off the threat of Reform/Farage” to STOP being the way government decides on policy. It’s done nothing but profound harm since 2016 and Farage is still going strong. It doesn’t work for anyone, except him.

People LOVED their factory jobs back in the 60s / 70s.

That's why there were so many songs about how they wanted to stay on the production line for all time and never, ever leave their hometown.

Is anyone talking about the fact that getting people with MH problems into work is only part of the task? They frequently need ongoing support to navigate the transition, and without this may not be able to keep the job

The fact that so many are being taken in by an insane pitch from right wing politicians that the UK needs to leave the ECHR - based on a wildly inaccurate & misleading premise - is an indictment of UK media’s inability to call it out

Leaving the ECHR will undermine all our rights. It’s that simple

My latest film explains why joining Russia & Belarus as the only European countries outside the ECHR will do nothing to stop small boats & it will undermine all our rights

I regularly think this (not exactly the same, as I’m not God, but very much in the ballpark)
Dear Modern Humans,

You thought you were so much smarter than people from the Middle Ages. But you're not.

Why do you think the dark ages lasted so long? It was because of greedy, insane despots who crushed progress and dangerous thoughts.

It won't end until you rise up and overthrow them all.
