If this government was really serious about growth, it would start negotiating a new UK-EU trade deal with a bespoke customs union at its heart.

I think the challenge the UK has with its relationship with Europe is its innate feeling of superiority to any other nation, as a result of its empire mindset. It fails to spot the benefits of being collaborative and working as a collective so has been exploited by people with their own agenda.
