Reminder that the world is on track to *expand* agriculture by hundreds of millions of hectares (clearing forests) by 2050 & also cut down more trees to meet growing wood demand.

There’s no land for large-scale reforestation (for nature, climate, or other goals) unless we can reverse those trends.
How to Manage the Global Land Squeeze? Produce, Protect, Reduce, Restore

Re: “where to put the trees,” they found planting a trillion trees would need 900 MILLION HECTARES (~3x size of India).

Reforestation *is* an ingredient in stabilizing the climate. But doing so at scale requires HUGE changes to food systems to free up land. AND we need to slash fossil CO2 ASAP.
I don't know where they're going to put a trillion trees. But if we view CO₂ removal as a time machine, a trillion trees is a time machine that will take us back 225 days in a year, once we wait a couple of decades for the trees to mature (and assuming that they don't burn down; they won’t, right?).
Republicans want to plant a trillion trees. Scientists are skeptical.
New research finds that planting a trillion trees would have a minimal effect on combating climate change.

Biden’s Foreign Policy Is Not Just ‘Better than Trump’, It’s the Best in the Field
Calling Biden’s foreign policy “better than Trump’s” far understates the case for it, at great political risk for responsible foreign policy.

Threads sucks because it rewards Instagram influencers who were able to just import their already large following & the algorithm just promotes the hell out of their high engagement posts

but as everyone is finding out, Instagram influencers just aren’t good posters. they don’t have the sickness.
