I've done that thing where I liked something so dipped my toe into the subreddits and realised the fandoms are in a frothing war with some extremely niche bugbears

It's this kind of faux-profoundity that fuels my low-stakes conspiracy that Rings of Power was largely written by AI and this was going to be triumphantly announced by Amazon when it was a barnstorming success, so they could enjoy the share price uplift of having the Makes Great Content machine.
Just had Gemini rewrite the story in the style of Cormac McCarthy (sorry CmC, RIP).

The river breaks the stone not in wrath but in the counting of days.

The general spat on the floor. He looked at the screen and then at the glass.

Damn them, he said.

What's your favourite ever movie review and why is it Gabe Delahaye's Eat Pray Love installment of The Hunt For The Worst Movie of All Time?

Man I miss Videogum.

The Hunt For The Worst Movie Of All Time: Eat, Pray, Love
A clarification: I haven’t read Eat, Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I actually really want to. I’ve hated that book for years, but I’ve never actually read it, and I think I owe MYSELF more. Forget E...

I've never read the books but I suspect the new 'The Forsytes' series might be painting in somewhat broader strokes

Goodie: "I think men dying down mines is bad"

Baddie: "Men dying down mines doesn't matter if you make money!" 😈

The Internet has allowed adults to chase after the trends of youth culture for dissection and elderly mockery at alarming and unnatural speed. Leave them alone! We're not meant to know!!

People in the UK need to realise this too. While better than the US, healthy food & cooking from scratch is more expensive.

Even reasonable people have this weird folksy idea that if you boil your chicken bones you can live on a thruppence, a those in poverty are either a) ignorant or b) feckless
Why do people buy pizza with EBT?

Because cauliflower is five dollars a head and you can buy five pizzas with the same money.

It’s not that folks don’t want to be healthy. They can’t afford to be healthy.

Also on the subject: Millennials carefully avoiding emojis because the youth recognise them as cringe are COWARDS
I'm sure this has been said a million times before but aren't 100% of "Gen Z Traits" just being young?

It is confirmed. Fatherhood has only increased @lackingsaint.bsky.social's powers (his powers are making good videos everyone should watch)

I've found out pedigree cat ownership is rising and while I get it (fluffy relaxed interesting colour cats!) I have to extoll the core benefits of traditional cat rearing: adopting or being adopted by a mad semi-feral creature of indeterminate lineage who bestows love or violence according to mood

I worked for a supermarket in my youth and my favourite customer was a wild eyed, desperate woman who on the brink of Christmas barrelled her way towards me and cried "SPROUTS!!" at the top of her lungs.
Ah, retail jobs. I worked at the meat and fish counter of a supermarket my first year of college. A customer once reported me to the manager because she asked me if her cat would like a particular piece of fish, and completely earnestly, I replied: ‘I don’t know your cat’.
M&S mini thread for a Wednesday morning.

One day, the second time I worked there, I was ringing up a women's order and asked if she wanted cash back.

The publishing industry will fail in its goal of uplifting diverse & working class voices if it doesn't acknowledge it isn't even currently succeeding in uplifting "middle class" voices

Middle class does not = executive parents & a lesser private school. The grip of the privately educated is insane

Introduce yourself using only one food you refuse to eat, one movie you'll never watch again, and one song you can't stand.

Black pudding: Not put off by the concept, just 👎

Eat Pray Love: Smug. Boring. Spiritually empty.

I Gotta Feeling: I'd rather put my feet in a bag of sheep's kidneys
Introduce yourself using only one food you refuse to eat, one movie you’ll never watch again, and one song you can’t stand.

Prawns. Not a fan of seafood generally but these twisty little dorks are the worst.

Monsters' Ball. Confuses "profound" with "relentlessly miserable".

You Get What You Give.
“Introduce yourself using only one food you refuse to eat, one movie you’ll never watch again, and one song you can’t stand”

Food: canned tuna fish

Film: Grease. I was horrified by its sexism from my first viewing at a sleepover and I remain correct

Song: Brown Eyed Girl. The worst

this is crude to say but starmer could goose step out on stage, throw a nazi salute & order every immigrant rounded up into camps, & it wouldn't convince a single fascist to vote for him, because what they want isn't rational. a far-right party would simply say "we'll do that but more & faster"
