DEAD MOTHERS are the one thing protecting humanity from the BTs in Death Stranding. Kojima—the BLEAKEST vision of the future. Totally unprepared for that.

Drakes response to that rap beef was a case study for losers. Everything from being the initial aggressor to a sore loser is violently embarrassing

Lumon gifting Milchik blackface Kier paintings was honestly devastating. NO SPOILERS but I’m also hung up on Natalie in that scene, was that fear on her face??

Reuploaded episode 17 to Spotify so you can actually HEAR it, and episode 18's out tomorrow!

This week I'm reviewing the sweet and funny Extremely Unique Dynamic (2024) and a dive into Anora's troubled production and other news.

Out tomorrow at noon!

It’s been 7 months since I read the Eclipse in Berserk, and I think I’m ready to go back.

Guts and Casca end up happy together and all the demons decide they’ve had enough right?

Right??

I let a randomizer pick this week’s movie and ended up with Honey 2 (2011) by Bille Woodruff!

My podcast Holleywood’s a breezy time. A few reviews a week, sometimes solo, and sometimes with the love of my life.

Episode 16 of the podcast out now!

I finally watch Love & Basketball (2000) and SPOILER I loved it.

Also some choice words for the YouTube algorithm and unreasonably small plates.

Martin Scorsese meeting the pope, having a religious experience so profound he wants his next movie to be about Jesus, and then a few months later ditching all that for a movie with Leo and the Rock in hawaii is the most catholic thing I’ve ever seen

Dropped Audacity for Reaper plus some compression software. Here’s hoping the audio clears up!

My favorite college days were spent in the library archives and the microfiche stacks. HOURS combing through history.

Still some of the happiest days of my education.
microfiche is so awesome. god damn I wish digital was never invented so we could still be using this microfiche technology.

Just finished The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Film Editing by Michael Ondaatje.

Five conversations Ondaatje had with Murch over a two-year period.

Crazy wisdom in here. Using sound to merge interior and exterior spaces. The flinch-point. Dreams as our first movies.

A must-read.

"the existence of acid rain implies the existence of basic--" no it doesn't dipshitt. Nothing implies anything. Subtext is on hiatus. My inference gland has been milked dry. No signifiers smuggle meaning underneath their surface. I am a snailfish on an abyssal plain.

Discourse does not mean SHIT when people's MATERIAL CONDITIONS are so shit that they would vote FASCIST.

These people have woken up to Trump, and you got your jollies watching them cry.

Next step: EMPATHY. Build a bridge OUT of these right-wing pipelines instead of dunking on their pain.
Here’s the thing. Every one of these people in tears heard Trump on the stump before Nov. They knew he was cruel. But they were fine with it, thinking he’d only hurt the people they didn’t like. The problem with cruelty—It spreads. You don’t get to control it. Sooner or later, it comes for you too.

I love Kendrick, but the man’s a capitalist with dreams of being an executive.
The biggest problem with most of you is you think Kendrick Lamar is your revolutionary friend.
Luigi Mangione is your revolutionary friend.

Small Things Like These is so quiet, sometimes it feels like you’re sinking into. Drags you feetfirst into what true goodness is, and why some revolutionary acts are small, silent, precious.

Cillian Murphy at his most understated. And that’s saying something.
