And if you are a history account and have a cool history deep dive thread, @ me on it, both because I love that stuff and also because I love retweeting (or whatever we do in place of that word) that stuff.

Definitely going on the list!
[Review] Shabake may have flown under a few radars as it was airing, but it's a solid show that deserves more attention.

Matsue is currently in the middle of a small tourism boom due to the current NHK morning drama, Bakebake, being a fictionalization of Yakumo Setsuko's life. There's Bakebake stuff *everywhere*.
I’m in Matsue for a couple days. I visited the former residence of, and memorial museum dedicated to Yakumo Koizumi, also known as Lafcadio Hearn.
Living in Japan during the Meiji period, he worked as a writer and translator. His work was pivotal in introducing Japanese culture to the Western world.

2026 is the year I actually try to take coherent notes on all this Japanese history reading I've been doing the past several years.

Even when they do have cellphones, they bear-ly get reception.
In theory, bears could wander in from Saitama or Ibaraki. However, the borders with both are flat plains, with extensive urbanization, which are significant hurdles. Bears also have limited access to cellphones, so cannot call for an Uber.

Blusky algo is a bit different (in that it doesn’t push your posts so much), it’s good to interact regularly and join lists!

You don’t get punished for retweeting

Japan's Furusato Tax allows you to contribute to rural areas in return for tax credit and some kind of product.
Many of Hokkaido's regions are offering Ainu crafts. In some towns like Biratori you can opt to contribute your tax directly to the promotion, preservation and development of Ainu culture.

Some recent visitors asked about shelves full of シャンメリー(Chanmery) which prompts me to repeat an old thread. Chanmery is a carbonated soft drink, with a cap that sounds like a champagne cork popping when you open it.

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

FINALLY LFG (to the museum!)
It’s one of Tokyo’s most informative and detailed museums for history geeks. Unfortunately, it’s been closed to the public for almost four years. Finally, travelers to Japan have good news: the Edo-Tokyo Museum is set to reopen.

This will be super helpful near those stations that lack enough coin lockers (or those places that just don't have any to start with).
Need someplace to deposit your luggage in Japan? You have another option now: your local 7-Eleven. The combini chain has teamed with ecbo to offer luggage storage at 378 stores in 26 prefectures. Bags cost 500 yen ($3.20) a day; suitcases run 800 yen ($5).

Basically, many CJK glyphs in Unicode which share a codepoint will look different depending on what language the font is oriented towards.

This is why Google’s Noto family comes in Sinplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean variants.
