I wanted an ad-free experience on iPhone and with ongoing cookie shenanigans, I am moving away from Chrome to Brave.
Apple, unfortunately, does not have built-in adblock in Safari at this point. I think they should have it!

You have to start from “he is not a normal person”. Then, you get to “Some stuff he does is admirable/despicable”. He is at the edges, not in the middle.
I cannot wrap my mind around this man's psychology. Elon Musk has enough money to do dozens of things that would make him universally admired but for some reason he wants people to think he's good at video games.
This is a long gamer rant, but it's a window into Musk's approach to everything. It's not just he's paying people to level his account; it's how he needs to be known as a gaming god but is so lazy & shameless he doesn't bother learning the game's mechanics to make the ruse work.

X is an nteresting company. I never invested in them but their up and down swimgs in the last 20yrs would have provided some very nice returns.
It always looked like a sinking ship, yet it somehow keeps going.

I think I have seen this thread way too many times: every time Microsoft tries to improve user interface, and let’s be specific “start menu”, people hate it.

I personally can’t remember a time it got worse. Win11 puts it in center and that’s an improvement.

Amnesia is dangerous!
I’ve said this before, but my dad lost 4 siblings to polio & smallpox before the age of 10. They would be here today if they had access to vaccines. I wish we could trade those antivaxxers for my aunts & uncles.
As an Indian, my contempt for (rich white) anti-vaxxers in the west is so deep I often cannot quite find the words to express my contempt.
I grew up seeing polio-disabled children and adults crawling over rubble and roads in India.
My father worked for the Pulse Polio program.
What is happening?

"sudo can only be elevated via the User Account Control (UAC) security feature designed to protect the operating system from unauthorized changes using verification prompt."

Eh? Why do I want to be prompted with UAC and "click" on allow to use sudo? That's so Microsoft!

Looking through Win11 2024H2 release notes and I spot this:

Learn how to use sudo in your command line to run elevated commands (as an administrator) directly from an unelevated console session on Windows.

Updated Win11 to 2H2, it left 2 desktop.ini files on my desktop. This thing went through tons of testing, how is this still happening?

Corey is funny.
Now I need a BlueSky account for this thing.

The Captcha service they use is super pornographic, provided you're JD Vance.

Happy to see it finally arrived. Orgs with thousands of AWS accounts have been waiting for this!
AWS Organizations FINALLY added the ability to centrally manage root credentials for your AWS accounts. This includes removing long-term root credentials, preventing credential recovery, and provisioning secure-by-default accounts. Very, very cool.

Need more tooling like this. I used Twitter for 17 yrs as it was a great way to connect with techies all over the world, and get news fast.
With more people joining or reactivating their accounts here, there is hope for bsky.
Nice, @theo.io made exactly what I was looking for. It works perfectly, found a ton of Bluesky people I didn't know were here!

This is actually a pretty nice feature of the underlying protocol but requires a bit of tech skills.

💡 Tip: You can set your website as your username on Bluesky!

This is one form of self-verification, and we especially encourage official organizations and brands to do this! Examples include @npr.org @react.dev @duolingobrasil.com.br.

Here's our guide for how to do this:

I heard the same thing from pretty much everyone interested in the "show" tonight. Interestingly younger people thought Tyson would easily win. I guess his past colored their opinion, or they overestimated the endurance of a person at that age.

That’s a good idea. Build the momentum.
Congrats to @bluesky for all the new users

My 2 cents. Find every news source the has an RSS feed or equivalent and create accounts that that show their public deeds on here under @johndoetimesfeed

That way we all get access to news without having to wait for them to create accounts first.
