The granting of patents and trademarks to foods and words from the global south is part of a long colonial grab. It’s time to realise we share what we cook, and what we call it

There were 93 homicides in London last year: population 9 million

In New York - population 8.5 million - there were
391.

London's homicide figure is 6 times lower than LA, 9 times lower than Miami, 17 times lower than Chicago.

And it's falling year on year despite the population increasing

Just announced: the UK's most famous libel firm, Carter-Ruck, is being prosecuted before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal for recklessly enabling a $4bn fraud

It's astonishing how reckless Carter-Ruck was - likely causing $$$ more to be lost to fraudsters

There are no firm plans to combine them but some believe devolution will make it more likely.

Saw #secretshakespeare in the Abbey Ruins in Reading. Really excellent. Moving around the ruins with the actors used the backdrop superbly. I gather it’s on until 7August - if you are in the #Reading area give it a go

For the last 10 years these two Swans have lived around Ancoats, every year they’ve raised Cygnet’s… and have brought so much joy to this part of the world…

Earlier today the male Swan was attacked by a dog (no lead no muzzle) and was put down by the RSPCA… I’m so incandescent/sad…

RIP old friend!

Which, to be crystal clear, does not mean that I hold any candle for the vile Iranian regime, which has exported terror and oppressed its own people for decades. It would be great if the theocracy collapsed, and the Iranian people finally secured their freedom. But, beyond bombing, what’s the plan?
My unoriginal comment is that this will not end well. Easier to start wars than end them, let alone on your terms. (As Hamas found out). Unforeseen consequences. What’s the Israel/US strategy for the day after? Do they even have one? I have zero confidence in Trump’s national security team.
