We love mitochondria! ❤️
@sheinerlab.bsky.social solved the surprising structure of the Toxoplasma mitoribosome and gave an exciting seminar in Kaiserslautern. Thank you, Lilach, for a wonderful lecture!

Congratulations for the Lelio Orci Award, Anne. Very well deserved
I feel humble and honored to receive the Lelio Orci Award 2024. I want to thank my amazing co-workers and trainees who are with me on the pursuit of the understanding how intracellular communication is achieved.
Congratulations to Anne Spang for receiving the renowned Lelio Orci Award.

The award honors her pioneering work in intracellular organization and her research achievements in Cell Biology. @unibas.ch

This agreement is indeed hard to understand! Finland just downrated many MDPI journals and excludes them in the future from rankings. We should only publish in journals with serious peer reviewing!
😱
For every researcher at the ~420 German universities (nr includes applied science unis), there are certainly many respectable publishing options available, with serious peer review, both in the form of society journals or even with "commercial" publishers...

In our molecular biology seminar yesterday, we discussed how mitochondrial DNA is spilled out into the cytosol to induce inflammation. Some students did not understand the word herniation, so I made a little drawing 😜. We wish all mito-lovers (and others) a Merry Xmas!

The Herrmann lab wishs everybody a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We just celebrated our Xmas party and the farewell of our dear lab members Lea and Saskia. May your mitochondria provide you with tons of energy in 2025!

Thank you, Soni, for these wonderful pictures. I wish you all the best for your next step with your „own lab“. How exciting!
Thank you, Langer Lab, for an incredible farewell and for being there through all the highs and lows over the past 7 years. I'm deeply grateful for everything I’ve learned. Now, I’m excited to begin my next chapter. I’ll miss you all ❤️ Here’s to new beginnings and lifelong connections!

Nice drawing, Jan!
Again, glutathione comes to the rescue. In yeast, Tsa1 oxidizes glutathione at moderate H2O2 concentrations when the TRX system becomes inactivated by oxidation. A study together with the Morganlab and the Depontelab. doi.org/10.1016/j.fr...

There is no better job than that of a professor! It is always so much fun to explain basic biology on the blackboard in front of a fully packed auditorium. If you love science, you should consider an academic career

The German Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM) founded a new study group on Cellular Organelles. We just had a first exciting ‚Organelles&Friends’ meeting here at the RPTU. If you are GBM member and want to join the group, just enroll on the GBM homepage. @gbmev.bsky.social
