When designed most considered the short tailed weasel to be nearly perfect. However, it was later acknowledged that since mustelids are known for being long putting a short tail on one was a rather egregious mistake.

Fortunately this was corrected in the follow-up model, the long tailed weasel.

The Golden Stoat (2/2)
Through the shuffle of our daily lives, little bits and baubles may slip out of sight — a ring here, a remote there; all seemingly lost, but certainly not forgotten. Perhaps these missing items are not a matter of where, but of whom… “Honey, have you seen my earrings?” is an all too common refrain after a visit from the Golden Stoat (or Gilded Pilfer as it’s known in the UK). 
Slinking quietly through any narrow opening, this graceful Mustelid is a master of sneaky behavior — They’ll make very quick work of making off with your stuff. Sporting a special fondness for all that glitters (like gold), they seem to be drawn to jewelry, pins and coins. For whatever reason, they’re also quite fond of portable consumer electronics. 

 Due to their elusive nature, scientists can only speculate about their habits. Is it a manner of impressing a potential mate? Some kind of compulsion? Or, are they just a fidgety vessel of havoc? We may never know.
