This line about reductions in Detroit's water affordability plan really hit home:

“My health insurance premiums are doubling, and all the copays are quadrupling, and nothing goes down.”

DWSD’s new water payment plan is smaller and more expensive
DWSD opened applications for its new water payment assistance program, but it’s more exclusive and expensive.

I can only imagine what it would be like to see this plant for the first time over 100 years ago. It must have felt like a city within a city. Only to be replaced by a monstrosity that ate up some 400+ acres of land (and a neighborhood). Give the @detroithistorical.bsky.social a follow!
On November 14, 1914, John and Horace Dodge built the first Dodge automobile - the four-cylinder Dodge Model 30 - at their production facility in Hamtramck. This sketch shows "Dodge Main" as it looked upon completion in 1914.

Shot with a Yashica 124 TLR I had just inherited and Kodak TriX 400. Somewhere in Genesee County. I just got this camera out again and hope to use it in the next few weeks.

Detroit once operated three municipal farmers' markets simultaneously. This week’s video is on the Chene Ferry Market and how it was systematically destroyed in the 1980s. Check it out: youtu.be/9OLSKVmQBCI

This week’s video is on the First German Methodist Episcopal Church on Gratiot in #Detroit, which was built between 1891 and 1892. It became the Church of God in the early 1930s to serve black Detroiters on the outskirts of Black Bottom. Check it out: youtu.be/1imP9so-kUk

I'm going to vote at 9:30 AM. Any guesses as to what ballot I'll be? I'm guessing number 9.

Before Detroit built cars, it built stoves. This week’s video is on the Art Stove Company, a smaller but profitable corporation that operated a massive factory, which was later destroyed by I-75. Check it out: youtu.be/q2Edj5lqAG4

I have no capacity to do my work today, but I do have the capacity to look through maps from the 1890s. What gives?

Here’s a snippet from my video on the Southwest #Detroit Hospital, which will soon be demolished to make way for the new Detroit City FC stadium. I had to nerf this to 480p resolution to fit on BlueSky, so watch the full 9-minute and 33-second video in 4k: youtu.be/LGrpu5bnH4A

This week’s video dives into the history between the 1890s and today on the plot of land where Detroit City FC plans to demolish the Southwest Detroit Hospital and build a brand new 15,000-seat stadium. Check it out: youtu.be/LGrpu5bnH4A

This is probably my favorite drone clip so far. I didn’t include it in tomorrow’s YouTube video, but this building is the topic of the video. Hopefully, I’ll include some drone shots in next week’s video. This is a 1080p export so that the file could be uploaded to #Detroit Bluesky.

The new drone certainly isn’t good in low light, but I think I’ll have a lot of fun with this thing. In frame: St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in #Detroit, built 1918~1930, closed in 1989, reopened as St. Augustine and St. Monica Catholic Church in 1990. Designed by Donaldson and Meier.

Here’s the difference between taking the ‘safe’ route using greenways and taking 'less safe' surface streets in #Detroit that are already wide enough to accommodate bike infrastructure (but don’t) from my home to work.

I came into possession of a drone. The first thing I did with it? Flew it into a wall. GET. ON. MY. LEVEL. (it survived, don't worry)

This new multi-use path in Delray alongside Jefferson is SO lovely. Can we please do this along every spoke street in the city?! This one only exists because of the new bridge; this is one of the least populated corners of #Detroit
