Probably writing about something stupid or riding my bike somewhere dumb. I like making maps.

Two Sides of the Trail | December 2019

Shot with a Yashica 124 TLR I had just inherited and Kodak TriX 400. Somewhere in Genesee County. I just got this camera out again and hope to use it in the next few weeks.

I was momentarily blinded by rage when I first assembled this transformation. I truly cannot understand how anyone EVER thought that this was a good idea.

Go ahead, make my day.

Another day, another boomer getting called racist on YouTube

These before-and-after images never get happy, huh?

Getting smoother with the drone, but still have a lot to learn. This feels like free promo for Meijer 😂

Is it fair to say that this structure might be in better shape had we not built this next door? I'd say so.

Over 400 acres. Just sitting there.

Here’s a snippet from my video on the Southwest #Detroit Hospital, which will soon be demolished to make way for the new Detroit City FC stadium. I had to nerf this to 480p resolution to fit on BlueSky, so watch the full 9-minute and 33-second video in 4k: youtu.be/LGrpu5bnH4A

Two renderings for the same plot of land, 50+ years apart

I see your plan and propose an addition to it. I’m sick of riding around that dumb GM factory.

Highways have taken (and continue to take) so much from us. You can see the old Western Market across Michigan Avenue in the first image, and the hospital in the second.

You thought that I’d go to the Pupusería y Restaurante Salvadoreño and not share it on Bluesky? Really? You thought wrong.

This is probably my favorite drone clip so far. I didn’t include it in tomorrow’s YouTube video, but this building is the topic of the video. Hopefully, I’ll include some drone shots in next week’s video. This is a 1080p export so that the file could be uploaded to #Detroit Bluesky.

The new drone certainly isn’t good in low light, but I think I’ll have a lot of fun with this thing. In frame: St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in #Detroit, built 1918~1930, closed in 1989, reopened as St. Augustine and St. Monica Catholic Church in 1990. Designed by Donaldson and Meier.

Here’s the difference between taking the ‘safe’ route using greenways and taking 'less safe' surface streets in #Detroit that are already wide enough to accommodate bike infrastructure (but don’t) from my home to work.

This new multi-use path in Delray alongside Jefferson is SO lovely. Can we please do this along every spoke street in the city?! This one only exists because of the new bridge; this is one of the least populated corners of #Detroit

Despite how apocalyptic things might feel, we live in an insanely productive time for fun edits of dystopian clips. Here's my entry:

Can you imagine NOT thinking that Gratiot needs a major road diet? A scaled-down bike & pedestrian-friendly Gratiot would be safer for everyone and connect hundreds of thousands of Detroiters on the east side and suburbs. At least 8 people have died in accidents on Gratiot in #Detroit in 2025 alone.

The city recently listed the former Mazer-Cressman Cigar Plant on Grandy, and I think that's a huge mistake. It's a shoo-in for a historic designation.

Also, when I posted this on Instagram, somebody told me they hoped I would get robbed in the city for making my videos, so here we are.

When you're working on your longest YouTube video yet, and the City of Detroit lists the property in question for sale a few days before your video is set to release. Get ready for my longest-est video ever tomorrow at 9:45 AM! 😂

The first annual Poletown East Community Yard Sales will be on Sunday, October 12, from 9 AM until 4 PM, the same day as the St. Hyacinth Banana Festival. There will be an interactive map to help you find the sales and see what people are selling. See you there! 🤙

This one (and all of Calumet) is so special. I'd love to live there if it weren't so far away. I spend a week up there every year. Hoping that they can stabilize this one and so many others in town.
