I know these “interviews” with Justice Barrett are carefully scripted. But if she’s going to keeping urging Americans to “read the opinions,” and not just commentary, it sure would be nice if someone would ask her what we should do when—as is so often the case these days—there’s no opinion to read…

Attacking endowments and pulling research $ will also lead to less $ being available for scholarships; I'd expect this to be significant. Again, more student debt, or less access to higher ed for people outside the highest strata of society.
Blocking universities from selling their product to foreigners will drive up the cost of tuition for Americans. More and more student debt for Americans.

My daughter’s speech therapist went out of business because Medicaid reimbursement rates were too low. We do not have Medicaid. I’m going to keep posting this until people understand that when Medicaid gets cut *everyone* loses services.

These university capitulations should make us take a long, hard look at the modern research enterprise.

We value too much prestige over genuine scientific contributions; "geniuses" over hard work & humility.

The rot has been going on for some time, and we are now seeing the results.

our most powerful institutions rose up as one to stand against what they believed was the chief threat to free speech in the US: college kids annoying them on twitter. now that those same college kids are being deported for exercising free speech, those institutions are either invisible or complicit.

BREAKING: An immigration court determined our client Mahmoud Khalil to be removable from the U.S. based solely on his political speech.

The fight isn't over — we'll keep fighting for Mahmoud's freedom and all of our First Amendment rights in federal court.

I say this gently and with love: I hope my colleagues at Ivy League and elite private universities understand that public universities (who rely heavily on public funding and typically lack the endowments of our private siblings) deserve solidarity, too. Because it often feels like we're invisible.

I feel as if we're capable of acknowledging that a one-day boycott is mostly symbolic without becoming contemptuous and dismissive of people finding a little meaning and comfort in such a symbol. The scorn seems petty.
