A Flemish superstition says that you must always crush crab shells before casting them into the sea. It was thought that the shells would transform into a boat otherwise, and witches would use these crab-boats to sail along a ship at night and doom the vessel.

We don't learn from history because we haven't experienced those events, and humans don't learn well from being told things, we have to experience them for ourselves. History is the parent telling their kid not to make the same mistakes; humanity is the kid certain that their parent knows nothing.
I’ve been thinking about how history seems to be repeating itself, in its worst ways. Fascism, mysogyny and hate all seem to be on the rise, around the world. I wish we’d learn from history and try not to repeat ourselves.

i have one tree which has surprised me. the original tree died when we had that ice storm in 2020? but a new tree grew up from the same root system. it is bigger than the other one and i get tons of figs off it.
