Love to see the Sedgwick County Zoo putting out a good explainer on why GenAI slop videos of animals are a problem & how to identify them! It’s succinct, easy to read, and doesn’t shame people for not knowing better. A+ useful link to share with family and friends.

The Reality of AI Animal Content – Sedgwick County Zoo
If you spend any time on social media, you’ve probably seen them – bears bouncing on trampolines, apes caught on doorbell cameras, or “rescued” wild animals acting in ways that seem too good to be…

Think much of the over-parenting we despise stems from the early on fear of the driver.
If parents weren't terrified of our streets kids would have so much more freedom and independence which might get them comfortable with their children's ability to navigate the world without them.

I got myself a second bike!!! To be delivered to me Thanksgiving morning!

I don’t own a car but it still feels extravagant - even though it cost less than a friend’s recent car repairs 😂 it is used but I’m still thrilled! A road bike!!

A person just basically outed themself as a fascist sympathizer on a professional discussion forum and I just can't see that going well for them.

Remember that while food banks welcome donations of food, they prefer $$$$$$$. They have deals with grocery stores and suppliers. You can only buy one dollar's worth of food for one dollar, but they can buy several dollars' worth. So don't, like, buy food to donate it, just give 'em the dough.

I got really into Jane Goodall in late elementary school, and read an early reader biography about her, and while I can't recite a litany of facts, knowing about her as a kid was inspirational and important to me.

I'm going to sound like the biggest hater & loser in the world and I know we must do our political performance but the "look at my war ravaged Portland" photos especially from politicians are getting a little 😬 when we have crisis levels of people without housing including unknown numbers of kids

The near daily barrage of deadly mass shootings in America feels like low level warfare against normal citizens who just want to live in peace. And because people keep electing Republicans who won’t do anything about it there’s no solution in sight.

it’s Sunday on bluesky so I am urging everyone to take care of themselves. Take a walk, have a second cup of coffee or tea, read a book, spend some time looking at small poems

Hi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide!

It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers.

It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!

Part of the issue with people saying you can't cycle in winter/rain/wind/whatever is because they haven't tried and if they did they'd find out it's almost always fine but another is that we've normalised driving in unsafe conditions and, crucially, being expected to drive in unsafe conditions.

I understand AI isn't going to disappear and I work with information professionals so it would be foolish for my colleagues to ignore it, but when my colleagues casually use it for a creative endeavor (especially producing images) I feel ill.

The effect of car dependency: in 1940, Basil Rathbone was photographed wearing an overcoat outside his home. As more men relied on cars, overcoats became shorter to accommodate drivers. Today, the right is marketed as an "overcoat," even if it would've been considered more sport coat length in 1940.

Mr. President: Operation Warp Speed & the COVID vaccine were a success. As you have stated, they saved “tens of millions of lives.”

Vaccines have also helped eliminate polio, measles and mumps.

Vaccines work. Let us listen to doctors and scientists, not conspiracy theorists.
