So. Not sure how much I will participate here. I’m severely limiting my exposure to News these days to preserve my mental health (and even then I’ve burst into tears in public at work far too many times in the last few weeks, most recently yesterday.)
Among the many things I deeply resent right now one of the greatest is the fact that in order to maintain my sanity I have to lose touch with most of my friends. My friends are political people - that’s generally why we get along. But I just can’t do social media right now.

childhood conditions you to long for a future where all you have to do is ask aloud for a grilled cheese sandwich, or the complete history of Cardassia Prime, or soft background flute music, and Majel Barrett's voice will give it to you

*Fantine voice* 🎶NOW LIFE HAS KILLED THE DREAM I DREAMED🎶
one unfortunate outcome of this recent AI scam bubble is that it has absolutely killed my interest in AI's in fiction. the Alien tv show doing the whole "is AI a human" routine we've been doing for the last hundred years but now I'm like no, it's a shitty chatbot that destroys fresh water

Watching a pre-season friendly between Lyon and Eintracht Frankfurt and it’s lovely to have live soccer again even if the commentary is in French so I can only occasionally catch names and nothing else. One Matilda per team.

Crop art, the much-adored Minnesota tradition, only continues to boom in popularity. This year saw a record-breaking number of registrations and submissions.

Two tries in less than six minutes, both converted, nice start for the Walleroos!

Having survived the Euros, tonight we find out the draw for next year’s Asian Cup and thus who we get to see at the three group stage matches we already have tickets to (and the two more we’re hopefully going to get tickets for.)

Survived the day… but there were a couple meetings where I was less coherent than I would have liked to be. Early to bed tonight for certain.
Extra time. 3.52am… I’m not getting back to sleep, am I? (It’s going to be a hell of a first day of the semester.)

For many years I stayed up for the final night of the Tour de France Hommes, often the only stage I’d see to the end. I haven’t done that in a while, (also they shifted the time back), but I was up at 2am to watch the Lionesses the morning before semester begins…

Penalties. Oh God.

Will the 2025 Euros be the first major final with women in charge of both teams?

And here comes another one.
It's weird how many Australian rock songs have bagpipe solos

Refreshing and refreshing the WSL website for the season fixtures being released to find out who is playing where the weekend we’re in London, only to discover that it’s an FA Cup weekend and we won’t know if there are any matches in London until December.

Everything you say about the reason why lawyers should not do this goes triple for a judge. This should merit an instant judicial ethics review, and not the pro-forma “we asked the judge and the judge said he was sorry” bullshit.

This is not good for my adrenaline levels or heart rate. Also now I have to get up at 2am next Monday for the final.

That was Australia-France levels of tension.

70 minutes of bleary resignation and now I’m all keyed up again and have to get through another 30 of extra time. Come ON, England! (Yes, I know, that sentiment from an Australian and an American is unusual. But Lionesses.)

With the OptusSport debacle we currently have no idea if the WSL will even be watchable from Australia this season, but I’m starting to hope we can get WSL2 as well somehow because some of these teams are going all out with signings.

The better you are at a thing, the more "AI" will be a drag on your time, because it's operating at a lower level of skill than you are, and you have to fix what it does, rather than just do what you already know how to do.

So, yes.
Serious question: If you got one, do you use your college degree?

If I didn’t need sleep I could watch a Tour de France stage to its end, then watch two Euros games, and if there was any blank space I could fill it with Wimbledon.

Sadly, sleep is a thing I need and I can’t take the month of July off.

VERY MUCH enjoying today’s commentary team for the Matilda’s game.

Props to the broadcasters of this particular Euros match (Nor v Sui) for showing me exactly where the captain’s armband is going as substitutions happen. This is missing in most games.
