It's Autumn in the UK so I have officially archived my Office Shorts and have returned to Office Jeans.

I don't believe AI will replace us as developers - it's an enhancement, but we do have to embrace it and use it to our advantage, after all, this feels like many epoch moments I have lived through in my 40 year career...

To celebrate longer video on BlueSky...

Here's the time when Time Team did the hardest, coldest open that a cozy Sunday history show has ever done.

An opening so brutal my dad shouted "bloody hell!" during Sunday dinner and my mum made him apologize to us kids.

after a couple of decades of sitting on top of a mountain of cash, Apple *still* has the internal belief that it's a small company without many resources that could go under in two weeks; the horror of being bailed out by Microsoft is a trauma that got etched into the culture
Sometimes, they will decide that a feature or behaviour on the newer machines is worth the cost on older machines. But mostly it's a matter of them *not being aware of it*.

Apple's software development runs *super* lean, and is *extremely* overloaded.

Me: I can’t believe UK voters chose to torch their economy with Brexit. That can never be topped.

With CIV VII around the corner, it's going to be weird seeing my play time reset to zero.

Damn.

This new feature in VS2022 where it uses AI to try and predict a variable name when you refactor it, is really pissing me off and ruining my workflow.

For the 2nd year in a row, I'm fully booked up with work over yule tide and way into Q1 2025. Nice. But wow, am I putting some extra hours in.

Children loved to play with toys in #Roman times too: some 1,800 years ago, a child in Cologne was buried with a terracotta with a rider on wheels. It was certainly a much-loved which the child was also supposed to play with in the afterlife.

I'm a cathedral nerd. Here are some things that you might not notice about it – just from that one photo.
THREAD.

1. You can see straight down the nave to the apse. No medieval English cathedral has that.

I recently lost my coding wingman of 20+ years to cancer.

We were similar enough but also different enough to share weird shit that the other never expected and get a laugh out it.

Both Xmas lovers this would have created a nexus point of appreciated guffawing on multiple levels.

I miss you Dave
