My favorite book about war (although calling it "favorite" seems almost sacrilegious given the nature of the subject) is With the Old Breed, about the Marines at Peliliu in WWII.

But because I refuse to let the people who are doing such great damage to our country ruin this day for me. I love my country. I love what my country stands for. And for what it can be when it reaches its promise. No matter how long it takes, we will make sure it does, together.

Happy fourth y’all.

To paraphrase Lincoln, shall these have died in vain? Shall government of the people, by the people, and for the people perish from the earth?
It’s just around 1pm on a sweltering 87-degree day in the green fields and woods of Adams County, PA. The morning was rent by battle as Meade ordered the XII, XI, and I Corps to regain their hold on Culps Hill which is successful. It has been relatively quiet save for scattered skirmishing

Trump: We are the federal law. You better do it because you’re not going to get any federal funds.
