To borrow @gelliottmorris.com's line, this really does feel like a tipping point.

It’s important to recognize that a core American right is that I can mock a masked federal agent for being a little bitch without fear of being killed. In fact, that is protected by numerous rights in the Bill of Rights.

People who don’t get that are ignorant and unAmerican.

And feels like compounded sadness as it’s a day when we reflect on the day when it seemed we might have hit a bottom that compelled a degree of introspection; when we could have confronted realities, taken action to hold those accountable and prevent such a thing from happening again. Alas. Sad.
Just a really sad day to be a patriotic American.

I've gotta admit. Trump invading another country to kidnap its leader is scary. My mind races to "If he can use the military to do that, can he use the military to quash protests at home, or even something worse?" but this kind of thinking is exactly what Trump and Stephen Miller types hope for. 1/🧵

… instead of indulging in fear, try mockery. Try ridicule. Indulge in those emotions instead. Our president is a fool who is laughed at by all but his most ardent supporters. Keep laughing. 4/4

These people are too unpopular at home, too undisciplined, and too incompetent to do that.

This is a scary time. And you are right to be afraid. Trump is very dangerous as caged animals are. He'll continue to lash out. We'll likely see increasingly alarming actions by this administration. But …3/4

Analyzing Trump’s lawless use of the military without focusing on how it might enable his authoritarian project at home is really naive. It’s like the people who were wowed by Israel’s attacks on Iran and Hezbollah without focusing on Bibi’s precarious domestic situation.

This has been a very hard year for people who believe in this country. And next year may even be harder.

But we're still on our feet. And we aren't going down any time soon.

To say Hanukkah hits different this year would be to ignore how fraught it’s felt to be a Jew for some time. Jews, and frankly all of us, are falling back into history to a darker time. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Let the light of Hannukah guide us back to a better world.
