Photographing extreme heat is like photographing a ghost -- it's extremely difficult to capture in all its weirdness and power. But Tova Katzman did an incredible job here.

Soothing reading for our time and space🪐
Do you feel the state of the world is just too much to handle? That's because it is.

I don't monetize or try to build an audience. I write hoping I can soothe even one heart broken by the awareness of an unraveling world—a gesture of kinship, a gentle echo of understanding.💛

Fafocene, innit?
JFC this reads like a horror movie except it's been unfolding across a swathe of the South Australian coastline, indiscriminately killing all manner of marine life

Yet another devastating phenomenon we're all going to become more familiar with in the advent of fossil-fueled marine heatwaves

Phuck the patriarchy
As predicted, women in New Hampshire had a hard time voting yesterday because of the new proof of citizenship law:

“It doesn’t have my married name on it,” she said. Town voting officials then sent her away a second time, to get her marriage certificate.

NH’s new ID requirements send some would-be voters home to grab passports, birth certificates
The law requires all new voters to show proof of their U.S. citizenship. For some, that meant making multiple trips to and from the polls before finally casting a ballot on Tuesday.

It's difficult to explain how much irreparable damage Hendrix and Van Swol have probably done to the US emergency management system. By all means help your community directly but initiating reform of the entire US EM system with literally no understanding of how the system works is deeply harmful.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Democratic Party!
🚨INVESTIGATION: New legislation pushed by Musk would give him the largest payout in history, shield CEOs from accountability for wrongdoing & block shareholders from seeing corporate documents.

The bill was written by Musk's lawyers & backed by top Dems.
Musk Has Triggered A Corporate Deregulation Bomb
A Delaware bill would award Elon Musk $56 billion, shield corporate executives from liability, and strip away voting power from shareholders.

Tech Won't Save Us has been a vital source for a while now but it suddenly makes a lot more sense for all of us listen to @parismarx.com and his consistently wonderful guests.
A tech oligarchy has formed behind Donald Trump to implement an extreme right-wing agenda to protect their own power and wealth.

This week @gabydvj.bsky.social joins @parismarx.com to talk about Trump’s inauguration and what tech billionaires want from him.

Science and capitalism are just not compatible, really. You can't have a world where data is hidden and the incentives are very strong to just make shit up. Like sure, you'll always have some passionate people getting the work done, but you'll also have ladder climbers shitting on the rungs.
