Calling the substitution of Russian gas with Russian fertilizer a strategic blunder is an understatement. Because now the EU isn’t just paying for Russian energy. It’s also paying Russia to do the processing.

🧵As the Government unveils plans to boost clean power, worth noting how much public sentiment has shifted to seeing clean energy not just as good, but as a no-brainer. All voter groups (inc Reform) are more likely to think renewables will cut cost of living than raise it

This is so important!
People look at Net Zero in terms of costs, not benefits.

A new 2050 Net Zero system in Australia is $7-12 b more expensive in system costs per year, but delivers twice as much electricity and generates $80b in savings per year (avoided petrol+gas costs)!
Moreover, the recent wholesale electricity market has averaged around $20b-$25b, for delivering just half of 2050 ISP demand.
So for about $10b extra per year, the ISP is delivering twice as much electricity and savings of almost $80b in petrol & gas costs per year!
Bargain!

What is a fact that you think the world greatly under-appreciates?

Here's one to start:

Electricity can be converted into useful forms of energy much more efficiently than heat (which mostly comes from burning fossil fuels).

“All regions except South Australia are expected to experience system strength shortfalls over the next three years unless adequate investment or services are provided.”

Surprise, surprise! More renewables mean a stronger grid, not a weaker one!

South Australia has the most wind and solar and no baseload: So why is it the only state not fretting about a vulnerable grid?
South Australia has the highest wind and solar share in Australia and no baseload power – and is the only state in the main grid not facing a shortfall of “system strength.”

Anyone know sodium ion pricing vs lithium phosphate?

‘BESS has energy storage capacity of 2.3MWh…much less than the 5MWh and more than is now standard in the lithium-ion BESS space…most agree, , sodium-ion cells should also be cheaper than lithium-ion once manufacturing scales up’
BYD launches sodium-ion grid-scale BESS product
BYD has launched what it claimed is the 'world's first high-performance' sodium-ion BESS product, using its Long Blade Battery cell.
