Our new journal paper has hit the front pages and got wide coverage on the airwaves this morning.

The paper critically assesses “temperature neutrality” as a basis for Ireland’s long-term climate target. We find it amounts to backsliding on climate ambition and locks in food system unfairness.

Close to 1 full goddamn gigawatt of gas (open-cycle, so the most inefficient kind) for the "Project Jupiter" site in New Mexico.

This whole article is a stunning illustration of how data centres are incentivising new fossil infrastructure:

Saw a LinkedIn post today from a Serious Person who hailed progress on Ireland's planned LNG import terminal, and hilariously suggesting the gas could be sourced from cheap overseas biomethane.

Sadly, they weren't joking.

It might as well be powered by vibes.

I know far too many people who have been knocked off their bikes, and not once has it happened because of poor visibility or because they were not lit up enough. In each case, it was the fault of dangerous driving and/or dangerous infrastructure.
👀 Can you see me now?

The importance of visibility on our roads cannot be understated, particularly for vulnerable road users including pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter drivers and motorcyclists.

I’m really surprised this isn’t bigger news. Just under 10 million people live in Tehran. Where can they go? Where else in Iran will have enough water? This will undoubtedly strain the country’s and the region’s politics, finances and governance capacity.

Maybe she means that because we're not against fossil fuels, we shouldn't burn them?
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today that the fight against climate change was not against the fuels that cause it — only the pollution they emit.
Von der Leyen says EU is not fighting fossil fuels, only emissions
The comment could undermine European countries’ push at COP30 to move away from coal, oil and gas.

Their question "how does it feel to talk about your feelings about climate change, rather than your area of expertise" gives a flavour of the conversation!
“Most of the things that we need to do for climate change we need to do anyway and we would generally be better off doing those things” @hannahdaly.ie

There's a roundabout in Cork where even during the worst traffic, drivers unfailingly allow others to merge in a "zip" by local custom. Driving through it restores my faith in society, every time.

I just found out it's known as the "soundabout", and that's just wonderful.

There are many ways that cows emitting methane constantly are completely different from closed power stations. Firstly, their ongoing emissions are a choice and a lever we still have agency over. Secondly, they also cause a load of long-life GHGs, directly and indirectly.
