Jesus you can tell he likes saying this thing now, that “people” maybe wouldn’t mind a dictator. He’ll keep saying this now with intention that it self-fulfills.
Trump: "The line is that I'm a dictator, but I stop crime. So a lot of people say, 'You know, if that's the case, I'd rather have a dictator.'"

Another flawless evening in this eerily disengaged country where monthly employment data will be suppressed, bloody dictator of Russia is invited for a hug, military roams the streets of the capital and CEOs hand lumps of gold to the Leader on live teevee. Everyone is tuned out, though.

WSJ maybe not totally convinced about the “swagger” thing now…

They did this in the early 2000s, too. It didn’t turn out well.

Interesting June jobs report. So state and local governments added 80K (of the headline 147K), with states accounting for 47K. That’s a record monthly increase for June going back as far as 1955. Wonder where states did all this hiring. #jobs

Seven years ago, Pauline Shanks Kaurin left a good job as a tenured professor, uprooted her family, and moved to teach military ethics at the Naval War College. Now she's leaving in protest of policies she can't support and that make her job impossible.

It is true the economy is collapsing and millions of lives will be permanently blighted and US financial health damaged grievously. But at least Long Island schools can keep potentially racist cartoon mascots. We got that.

What’s lurking within today’s massive selloff, the collateral damage beyond the obvious hits to investors? The over-leveraged and wobbly institutions now severely stressed, possible dominoes that begin to fall? They’re out there, it won’t be different this time. #stocks

36 people are reported dead in the last 24 hours across seven states due to extreme storms.

States of emergency have been declared in Arkansas, Georgia and Oklahoma, where more than 100 wildfires have been raging.

Trump would like you to know this.

Perhaps the most depressing part about the last couple of months is that every awful shitty thing that’s happening to this country is self-induced. People asked for this. None of it had to happen.

On the US siding with Russia against Ukraine and Europe, I’m as appalled as anyone, but my reaction to the shock and surprise is “it’s about time you caught up.”

Trump’s Putin sympathy, along with Vance’s, Musk’s, and MAGA media’s, has been consistent. Finally now others’ wishful thinking can stop.
