So here's what I wish for us:
* we give books as holiday gifts
* we get them from our local indie bookstores
* we spend time reading with the people and pets we love
* when we feel the call, we write
* we get enough sun, nutrients, movement, and sleep
* we bloom again in springtime & kick ass. 11/11

Two books in a row by @sgj.bsky.social have left me in tears: I Was A Teenage Slasher and The Angel of Indian Lake. Picked up The Buffalo Hunter Hunter but not sure I'm emotionally prepared, which means of course I'm diving in to have my heart shredded again. Whew. Thank you for these, sir.

PLEASE don’t buy into Amazon’s booksale this week.

They are intentionally trying to eat into profits from Indie Bookstore Day this weekend, a really important annual event for our important community institutions.

Check out your local fave or bookshop.org.
Bookshop: Buy books online. Support local bookstores.
An online bookstore that financially supports local independent bookstores and gives back to the book community.

The young men cheering on fascism seem not to know that young men are fascism’s favorite food.

It may save its favorite longer than the rest of the meal. But only to relish it more.

To add, don’t “forget” to pay artists for their work either!

If you want art, you have to understand that while some of it may be “free” a lot of artists 1) live off their work 2) need incentive 3) need motivation

…and so on.

Buy that commission, donate to that Patreon, Ko-FI, what have you.
It may feel weird or somehow improper to talk about your art or your writing, but we need it. It can’t be wall-to-wall nightmare all the time. Art is both counterweight and context. It’s escape and enlightenment and a mirror of our own exasperation. We need it. We NEED it. Keep showing us.

So hey, does anyone remember how the Iraq insurgency after de-baathification kicked a whole lot of people out of government jobs and they had nowhere to go?
Thinking about that for no reason at all.

It's really only a matter of time before Musk issues the order to abolish the House and Senate.
