Anybody in Britain who gives credence to Trump's absurd bullying of a news organisation by claiming significant reputational impact (damage) from a BBC edit of Panorama in October 2024 should lose any credibility

- Demonstrate a shift in Trump's reputation at that moment!
- Attribute it to the BBC

It is utter bullshit that the mistaken splicing of two bits of his January 6th 2021 speech on Panorama in October 2024 had any significant impact whatsoever on the reputation of Donald Trump in Britain, or globally, and the claim for $1 billion damages is bullshit and bullying by the US president

The BBC must reassert its independence and learn to resist political interference and stand up for robust scrutiny and news values.

The Culture Sec Lisa Nandy must also resist Trumpian pressure in appointing the new DG. It's messy and the Beeb is in trouble, but we should fight for its future.

Facebook is far more influential with voters, but X is far more influential with media and political elites, so it sets the wider discourse. Why the UK government is on X, a platform run by a man who has repeatedly tried to incite civil war here is beyond me.

There are Facebook pages - local newspapers, local authorities, MP and other politics - that have spiralled downwards and are now utter cesspits of racism, anti-immigrant rhetoric, raging xenophobia and nationalism.

Sadly this is all mixed in with specialist FB groups operated by really good people

This strikes me as wholly relevant to politics. Boris Johnson could not do continuity - beyond the actions / gimmicks there was only incoherence. I suspect Farage will have the same problem.

A full house of extreme racism, calling for mass deportations, the removal of Indians, the incompatibility of black people with law and order, calling for a new holocaust of the Jews, and direct personal racist abuse of the Home Secretary. X just says: fine, carry on!
