Taking a risograph workshop this Sunday so I made a guy. I have no idea how this will turn out, we won't even know the colors we'll be using until day of

Therapy repost of a Key Bard
A key bard strums their little guitar with their little clawed hands. The guitar has soft, kissable lips. Tragically, the bard's face is an un-lipped, un-kissable (??) field of stars with a nova in the middle. They still make it work. Above the bard floats a luminous keyhole. The bard's cape is plush and blue. The bard's hat is a disc adorned with dangling notes and reminders about the key's birthday and favorite Ninjago characters. Ninjago is their love language.

It's called Pokemon, and I made it
An aerial view of an arena on a tropical beach. At SW and NE ends are resort buildings with pools in the center. Each building is flanked by statues of the Pokemon Blastoise and topped with a statue of the pokemon Sobble. The Sobble statue is crying fountains of water that pour into pools on either side. In the center of the arena is a small freshwater inlet, fed by a stream. At the SE corner is a shaded glen. At the NW corner is the shoreline, with catamarans and sailing boats in the bay. The boats look kinda like one of the seagull pokemon probably, if you squint.

I love threads like this because:

1) They provide good, thoughtful insights into a particular design philosophy, and

2) They prove that you can break any design "rules" upon the wheel, dip them in acid, chop them up, bake them into a pie, and still get designs that people love

Towerborne, the game I've been doing environment art for, had its Game Preview launch on Game Pass yesterday. They gave me the privilege of painting up some alternate key art for it

Not just the rocks and trees even, they let this environment guy draw the folks and hands and faces and everything 💦

If there's anything I hope young creatives take from David Lynch, it's to reject the modern IP-driven impulse to explicitly explain and cleanly categorize the logic behind every single event and decision inside and outside of a story at least some of the time.

The end of spooktime approaches. I worked with some friends on a horror game a couple years ago. Pitch was about trying to clean a haunted house while avoiding random assortments of ghouls.

Didn't end up going anywhere but doing monster designs for it was a ton of fun
"Sound Ghoul". Left to right, top row: A human with deer-like proportions, the antlers are two giant hands, the face is shorn off revealing the bisected skull; Same human, with an ear for a face. Middle-row: A human torso/legs, the upper half is a giant ear with giant hands extending; the back legs of a horse with a loudspeaker mounted on top; A giant bearded face with a honeycomb of holes where the eyes/nose should be. Bottom row: A giant ear with large hands extending on a pair of human legs; The back half of a horse lodged inside of an upside down meat grinder. A bemused whinny comes out the front of the grinder; A giant bearded face on 4 baby legs, with a giant ear where it's eyes/nose should be. "Sight Ghoul".
