I cannot get over how evil this is.

My hunch: this opinion piece won't age well, so let's revisit it in a few months.

Opinion | Economists were wrong about tariffs. They need to figure out why.
They’re becoming as useless as political pollsters.

3 in 4 Americans are wondering why on earth Washington Post-Ipsos are even asking this question.
As President Donald Trump continues his campaign to win a Nobel Peace Prize, Americans are broadly skeptical.

A Washington Post-Ipsos poll finds 76 percent of Americans say he doesn’t deserve to win it.
76 percent of Americans say Trump does not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize
Most Americans also say former president Barack Obama did not deserve to win the prize in 2009.

Janet Yellen: why Trump’s Fed meddling could be a ‘profound’ cost ‘to every American’
Janet Yellen is a pioneer in the annals of Washington and is one of the most influential contemporary economists of our time – the first woman to lead the Federal Reserve, as well as the United States Treasury. Now, she has a stark warning about Trump’s Federal Reserve interference: “Chaos follows when leaders capture their central banks and force them to buy government debt or cut interest rates to hold down debt service expense… There will be a cost to every American that could be profound if this is allowed to happen.”

On February 3, 2010, argentine president Cristina Kirchner fired the head of the central bank, setting off a 15 year spiral of inflation that would eventually peak last year at 220%.

Let's say, on that day, you bought lunch for $20 argentine pesos. Today, that same lunch would cost you $4,156 pesos
It’s hard to overstate how big a deal this is - for the economy (ours and globally), for the rule of law, and for the proper and efficient function of government.

Lmao because I know Brendan, and he’s a great guy, and a smart professor, and I’m pretty sure he knows both AC’s and fans use electricity, and there are trade offs, and I’m also sure he’s well versed in why both are still in use :-)
Am replying because this was reposted by @brendannyhan.bsky.social who teaches at Dartmouth and it seems important to call out incorrect statements so they don't make it into the classroom. 3/

Unbiased, apolitical government statistics is such a deep well of knowledge. “Nice stats you have here. It’d be a shame if sumthin’ ‘appened to ‘em.”
My latest in @usnews.com — The American Time-Use Survey is the only source of hard data on the breadth and value of unpaid care work. If @dogeposts.bsky.social slashes funding, we will be blind to a measure that shows that the wealth of a nation is about so much more than money can buy.

Today's the day it happened.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.
