I really feel bad for sysadmins who don’t have great English skills. There’s no way a world of LLM translator bots can ever get all the discussions amongst English-speaking sysadmins close enough to correct. Too much jargon and more importantly too much nuance in how words are used. I’ve spent a […]

So if you initiate the phone-to-phone Signal account transfer process, and it _almost_ completes, such that the _account_ is transferred, but the _data_ isn't, and then errors out ... and if you didn't have backups enabled ... then your entire chat history just vanishes into thin air with zero […]

There were many women geniuses involved in the development of computer science, including my late mother, Rosa Burnet Oliveros.

She was known as “The Legend” in her field of programming and signed her work product with her initials to avoid having it be written off because of sexism.

Only in SF:

- bunch of explicitly anti-social, pro-AI ads show up
- people get mad
- ads had things like ‘you’re a bad parent. Just use AI to fix your kids before they go wrong’ and ‘replace humans’
- they revealed that this was all a joke to make a statement about irresponsible AI

After Mamdani named Lillian Bonsignore as his choice to lead FDNY, a right-wing smear campaign began on X to undermine her because she is a lesbian.

A 9/11 first responder, Bonsignore is a 31-year FDNY veteran and headed EMS services. 70-80% of FDNY calls are EMS related. Only 10% are fire related.

I'm just making a note of this because I'm old enough to remember and a lot of people aren't – I saw someone claim that Google stole the name Chrome "from Firefox's internals", which makes no sense.

Back in the early 2000s, "chrome" was common programmer slang for "user interface". Like in […]

This all started, NYT explains, when Rubio (he of the unanimous confirmation) signed a deal w/Nayib Bukele. Nothing abt this deal makes sense (they had to invent the TdA deportees from tattoos) except insofar as Bukele had to thwart MS-13 prosecutions in the US.

Fight drug war by inventing it.

Generating almost a GB/min of log.
Also generating a LOT of blockage.
#digitalocean and #huawei customers are going to have a hard time using SA. Damn shame.

I so hope this blows up in his face spectacularly.
Note that I do not believe that any LLM can become as skilled as the least skilled #infosec professional using conventional tools, so I’m quite confident this will not reach any useful goal.

#fediayuda #fedihelp #email #spf #dmarc #dkim

I never knew it was called the “Moylan arrow.” But now that I know, I will call it that. It’s such a super simple, yet super valuable innovation.

The Inventor Of The Little Arrow That Tells You What Side The Fuel Filler Is On Has Died
The idea came to Moylan on a rainy day in April 1986 when he hopped in one of Ford's employee fleet cars to drive to a meeting at another building.
