Popular resistance in Trump's first term accomplished more than many realize. A history professor explores how quiet organizing in communities and workplaces had more impact than visible tactics like petitions and hashtags. buff.ly/88olGvT

Good survey. Loads of detail in the report on behaviour, motivations, barriers/opportunities and thoughts on future priorities. As per other surveys/focus groups over last few years, road condition a concern and so is demand for better public transport & active travel infrastructure
The Transport East ‘Transport Behaviour Survey’ of Spring 2024 has announced its results. They show a strong demand for sustainable transport options, but the need for investment & infrastructure to facilitate better transport choices

“The amount of land in England effectively protected for nature has fallen to just 2.93%, while the amount of sea protected is at 9.92%.”

The figures are falling owing to declines in quality of sites of special scientific interest - linked to the climate crisis, water pollution and overgrazing.

John Bird on how the government gets poverty reduction efforts wrong

- c80% of response is spent dealing with the emergencies thrown up by poverty not cause

- “Because at least 8 ministries are responsible for having a finger in the poverty pie, you get the scattergun effect of insipid policy”
This is the first thing I would do to finally end poverty
Governments invest virtually all of their poverty money into coping with the emergency of poverty. So we never get to reduce it.

Asheville is over 2,000 feet above sea level, and ~300 miles away from the nearest coastline. No place is safe from climate change.

We all suffer the consequences. We must all take action. We are all in this together.

Scotland has detected no cases of cervical cancer in women born between 1988-1996 who were fully vaccinated against HPV between the ages of 12 and 13.

Vaccines are incredible.

This graph is astonishing. The people that bang on about “natural birth” and “women have been doing this forever without help” need to be forced to stare at this until their eyes water.

For those working in/around transport policy there's an important recognition here of the role transport can play in reducing costs for those on low incomes & increasing access to the things that mitigate the impact of poverty (including education, community activities, green space etc)
