Didn’t mom tell us not to copy other people’s homework?

Alright folks I’m here to give live updates on Mayor Lurie’s Town Hall on family zoning, put on by the Richmond District democratic club. Let’s see if I remember to thread these.

The San Francisco "progressive" playbook:

1) Oppose new state housing laws

2) Demonize the people who write and advocate for them

3) Take credit for the affordable housing projects those laws create

4) Repeat
This is rich. Connie Chan says she “built real affordable housing, not the Sacramento version that destroys our neighborhoods.”

She points to new affordable housing on Geary: housing that she didn’t build but that *was* built using “Sacramento version” housing laws & $52M in state funds. 🧵

I did a spit take when I saw this from Supervisor Chan's campaign launch video 😡

All she did, as far as I can tell, was cut a ribbon for 4200 Geary / 383 6th earlier this week.

The laws and funding that actually EMPOWERED this building to be built were all passed by @scottwiener.bsky.social

As someone currently represented by Connie Chan, I can’t really wish this on anyone else.

In our upside-down world of our politics, it’s called “progressive” to try and lock our neighborhood in amber and fight new housing, to stump for highways and cars. I reject that sfstandard.com/2025/11/20/c...
Connie Chan launches 2026 bid to succeed Pelosi in Congress
The progressive would be the first Asian American to represent San Francisco in Congress.

My thoughts on Supe Chan:
- opposed 639 Stevenson
- obstructed the Geary "BRT" project & brought in the MTA board chair to a "community mtg" only to have them ambushed
- plays politics w/ street safety in D1
- opposed Prop J (JFK Prom) and Prop K (Sunset Dunes)
- vote for @scottwiener.bsky.social

JUST IN: San Francisco's biggest NIMBY, who is steadfastly committed to ensuring that your rent climbs into the stratosphere, has decided she's finished ruining San Francisco, and has aspirations to encase the entirety of the United States in amber.

Do. Not. Elect. Connie.

My crazy idea for incorporating public feedback into city planning: You let residents vote for representatives in city government, and those people are empowered to implement the policies they promised while campaigning.
At Land Use (again) and it's literally all the same people it always is (myself included)...like who are we fooling that the same 75 people showing up every time is "the will of the people"? What a sham public process is sometimes, sadly

I have a piece in the @sfchronicle.com today about why San Francisco should copy New York's successful congestion pricing model to revitalize downtown: www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/open...
N.Y. is using this controversial idea to fight traffic, fund transit and bring life back downtown. S.F. can, too
Every so often, policymakers are lucky enough to find a rare win-win that makes everyone better off. Congestion pricing is one of those ideas.

She talks about interim zoning control for legacy businesses in response to a question about protecting small business. I think it would require a condition use hearing if a business would be displaced. I think she wants to extend this to all businesses? Talks about working with Supervisor Melgar.
May 22, 2025 at 2:30 AM
Talks about traffic closures due to concerts. “The entire month of August”
May 22, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Says that there is not enough investment in transit on the West side. Says that she missed her son’s soccer game due to traffic in Golden Gate Park.
May 22, 2025 at 2:25 AM
Says that we lack a North South connection. True!!
May 22, 2025 at 2:23 AM
She’s asked about the great highway closure. Actually good question about how we can support transit in car-dependent west side
May 22, 2025 at 2:23 AM
She’s asked about what she’s doing to approve new housing. She talks about the saint annes site on lake and how the city is working with potential developers
May 22, 2025 at 2:21 AM
“Upzoning is happening” says that she having a discussion about legislation with Chen and Melgar to “protect against displacement” and to protect small businesses. Says that the Richmond is “not a NIMBY community”
May 22, 2025 at 2:18 AM
Talks about the “Right to Know” legislation, mail notices for family zoning. Weirdly hasn’t talked about what the family zoning plan actually is or why it’s needed
May 22, 2025 at 2:16 AM
Talks about the 4200 Geary, updated address is 383 6th Ave, says people are moving, the ground floor will be Asian Family Supportive services
