Woof. Not a lot of new ground here but props to Lurie for getting out there.
November 21, 2025 at 3:46 AM
Lurie points out the that they’ve made a lot of change. They wrap it up.
November 21, 2025 at 3:45 AM
Getting into a bit of a back and forth here. She wants there to be an alternate plan. Lots of heckling.
November 21, 2025 at 3:44 AM
Lurie says there have been years of outreach on this, so it’s not fair to say that this a “broad stroke” plan
November 21, 2025 at 3:42 AM
WHY SANDRA. WHY?!
November 21, 2025 at 3:41 AM
Fewer: “we don’t have a lot of people coming and going here in the Richmond.”
November 21, 2025 at 3:40 AM
Fewer: “this plan is too broad. Doesn’t differentiate neighborhoods” talks about the pipeline again. Kind tough to answer when she refuses to let Rachel Tanner speak.
November 21, 2025 at 3:39 AM
Fewer brings up Parkmerced again. Wants the city to pressure developers and invoke eminent domain?
November 21, 2025 at 3:38 AM
Says that we’re gonna pass this plan and says that we should stay on top of it.
November 21, 2025 at 3:35 AM
Lurie says that the plan has taken a lot of feedback. Mentions that some people have asked him to sue the state (and they have lost). Says that he doesn’t want to risk losing state funding. Doesn’t directly answer the question about entitled developments.
November 21, 2025 at 3:34 AM
Lots of cheering. She forces Mayor Lurie to answer and not Rachel Tanner.
November 21, 2025 at 3:32 AM
Truly unbelievable. She wants to push any new housing elsewhere, anywhere but the Richmond.
November 21, 2025 at 3:32 AM
Last question from Sandra Fewer- we have been told repeatedly that we have no option but to accept the family zoning plan. She talks about the 72k units that are already entitled - candlestick park, etc. she wants Lurie to not upzone the Richmond but to push forward in these areas.
November 21, 2025 at 3:31 AM
Lurie recognizes that the work doesn’t stop when the Family Zoning plan is passed- lots of macro-economic factors to overcome.
November 21, 2025 at 3:27 AM
Question from a former supervisor: “what can you do about what we see as over-zoning” - can you push forward housing that is already entitled?
November 21, 2025 at 3:25 AM
(Also the RDDC lead sat down next to me and is furious about Mayor Lurie’s answers)
November 21, 2025 at 3:22 AM
Question about constant SFPUC construction on Geary- Lurie says that he wants to work with Supervisor Chan on small business relief in these situations.
November 21, 2025 at 3:21 AM
Question: How will you guarantee that tenants who are displaced by your plan will not have to leave. Folks heckling whenever Lurie throws to Rachel.
November 21, 2025 at 3:19 AM
Question about the La Playa Safeway- question says the project is in the coastal zone and is illegal. Rachel says that yes, they need get coastal commission approval. Sandra Fewer says that the project is in the tsunami zone, some lovely fear-mongering
November 21, 2025 at 3:17 AM
Got a question about D4: “some people walk high rises along Ocean Beach. I don’t.”
November 21, 2025 at 3:16 AM
Lurie talks about how some folks have characterized 4-story building as “monsters”, so there will differences of opinion there.
November 21, 2025 at 3:15 AM
Someone asks if the Mayor has been to Vancouver or Hong Kong. Turns out he has.
November 21, 2025 at 3:14 AM
Question: Something about how you can’t unleash the free market to build housing. Lurie: “We haven’t built enough housing in the state or in this city.” Talks about how the status quo isn’t working. Reminds people that we have a state mandate, again invokes Sacramento.
November 21, 2025 at 3:13 AM
Lurie: “small businesses are struggling because of a lack of foot traffic, and I’m committed to helping them” throws to Rachel Tanner who talks about small business incentives.
