exciting to be living in an era where "full automation is here rendering most forms of work obsolete" and "legitimate citizenship can only be achieved through work, even if you're disabled" are not only concurrent ideas, but actively embraced by government.

this post is how I found out Stephen Bush, a columnist at the Financial Times who I have never interacted with, has me added to a blocklist

I don't know how big of a warning sign you need that the death of seeing me post about once a month is bad for your politics!
They just don’t get it, and never will

It does kind of look like BBC staff are all shitting their pants in molten terror, every time some awkward guest says something that departs from the approved narrative, doesn’t it.
Helena Kennedy KC: ".. where you force people.. into a concentration camp..."

Interviewer: "You use the words concentration camp, do you mean that, because our understanding of concentration camps is surely very different from this"

"Why?"

We have a Labour MP that battered a constituent on camera and managed to have his conviction downgraded to a suspended sentence and yet ask your MP why they do more for a foreign state than your own voters and you get the full treatment from South Wales Police and the courts.
What's unstated in this is the asymmetry of belief between the MP and the protestors, though the judge alludes to the strength of the latter's views. In contrast, Davies-Jones clearly doesn't have a strong view on Palestine & just votes with the whip.

it did lead to the greatest story published on that website, ever: Someone routinely stole and returned cutlery from the pub rather than wash his own.

“You could call it some kind of affirmative action.”
