"the issue isn’t that we need more 'boy-friendly' reforms. It’s that boys are socialized to compete only with boys and to read girls’ success as illegitimate or emasculating. The result is dissonance, resentment, and disengagement for boys—and hostile climates for girls."

I hope someone draws this wonderful story about Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the power of the arts to help us see things differently, to the attention of our Education Secretary. Do read it, it will lift your spirits.

Rather than simply boycotting e-commerce giants, Free DC is organizing a "procott" in time for holiday shopping.

Their local shopping guide features 50+ spots on board to support D.C.'s autonomy, including @solidstatebooksdc.bsky.social, @metrobardc.bsky.social, @loyaltybooks.bsky.social, and more:
This holiday season, Free DC wants you to "procott" these local businesses
While boycotts operate on withholding money, procotts are about spending it.

In Monrovia, California, protesters are purchasing 17¢ ICE scrapers from Home Depot and immediately returning them to create long lines and slow down the entire store. Their aim is to disrupt sales and convey a message opposing ICE raids occurring in their neighborhood.

If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

These posters started popping up ahead of next week’s We Ain’t Buying It boycott.

From Nov 27 - Dec 1, folks are stepping back from corporate chains like Target, Home Depot, and Amazon. People are done being squeezed, so they are using the leverage of their wallets 💥

Everyone & everything are connected. Pretending otherwise is delusional. We have a national mental health crisis we still are not discussing, & it’s taking us to ruin, and the loss of our collective humanity.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

“What’s going on?” he asked from the door.
She tapped #ash from a cigarette into a dish from the wedding china. They didn’t own any ashtrays.
“I’m smoking,” she said.
“Why?” he asked. “It’s been years.”
“I said I might start again, if I had a reason,” she said. “Did you see your email?”

One thing that helps me a lot is thinking of my mind as a camera with a lens that can zoom WAY in or WAY out. Whenever you find yourself paralyzed by useless stress, zooming out toward the cosmic or in toward the infinitely moment-mindful is both healthy and wise.

It's ALL reality.

Ugh. I still don't have the juice to make this very deep, full-bodied thread, but I will do a cliff notes since we're talking about empathy, duty, federalism and this nightmare we're living through.

🧵 I guess.
Hm...

I don't know if I have a thread in me, but I have a really important one that's been brewing in my brain noodle for a while re: federal government and why it's so reviled by these assholes.

Tabled for now, but I'll put a pin in it for later.

(does 📌 still work for saving things?)
