For feeds covering critical moments like elections, this sort of transparency can help prevent algorithmic bias and even preserve trust in the press and protect democratic institutions.

Also, because the trending feed was open source, it’s easy to find out if it was being manipulated.

Just recreate the feed on @graze.social and use the “debug” tool to see if sus posts match the presented algorithm.

If they match, you know content isn’t surreptitiously being added to the feed.

@pfrazee.com goes into detail on this in his post below. It’s amazing to see the actual algorithm used to show content on the trending feed, and it’s something I’ve never seen happen on social media before.

It’s all there, open source and easily reproducible. That’s a future I want to be a part of.
