By pardoning the most violent January 6th attackers, Trump is telling them to commit more violence in his name, and if and when they do — he will protect them.

We are all in terrible danger.

This is why there will be no maga civil war. Impunity binds the maga base to the criminal billionaires. They all want to defy the rules.

For the tech bros, it's about an ideology that says "they are supermen, and supermen should not be subject to rules, because they're remaking the world in their image," writes Vox's Sigal Samuel. "MAGA is all about granting unchecked power to the powerful." voxdotcom.visitlink.me/ofu5dL
The broligarchs have a vision for the new Trump term. It’s darker than you think.
The real reason Musk, Zuckerberg, and Bezos are supporting Trump.

I can’t stop thinking about the Washington Post changing its “democracy dies in darkness” mission statement.

Well said.
If your opponent is "gaming the game" and there are no consequences for doing so, you will not defeat them by following the rules. You will only feel morally superior in your losers' chair.

Liberals and Democrats keep assuming that Trump is going to act like policy and law affect everyone in equal measure. He won't do that. He will do everything he can to carve out exceptions for his supporters while punishing everyone else. Example: mass deportations in Connecticut but not Texas.

I don’t know why we would presume that such consequences will spark an appropriate backlash when it’s much easier to appease Trump. The press has already done that. So have some Democrats. We are not in Kansas anymore.
Maybe when journalists and Democratic Party leaders start getting thrown into jail for no reason, they’ll start pulling their head out of their ass.

Congrats to members of the Washington press corps who chose to play along with Trump. Thanks to your efforts, we’re going to have an FBI director who will prosecute journalists for doing journalism that Trump doesn’t like. Courts and the law won’t save you when your employer betrays you.
