One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, Grafton Street in Dublin, was filled with cars until a 4 week pedestrianization pilot project in 1971. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

A NOAA study published on Friday shows the escalating cost of climate-related extreme weather events in the US. CPI-adjusted weather-related costs rose from an average of $21.3 billion/yr in the 1980's to $151.4 billion/yr so far in the 2020's.

A May Fed survey found that 13% of Americans reported economic hardship due to extreme weather/climate events during the previous year.

Property damage was reported by 7% of respondents, while 5% reported income loss or work disruption.
