Academic librarian/archivist. Goth girl. Queer lady (she/her). You know me for my knitting, weird haircut, and janky metadata workarounds. I have an employer and I don't speak for them.
Pinned
Me these days:
* I am an AV librarian that thinks about access, description, and AI.
* While it's no longer my primary focus, I still work on Holocaust related materials and think about ethics and vicarious trauma.
* I always want your cute crow pictures.
Library land, I'll be at Code4Lib! Feel free to say hi if I'm not wearing headphones. I still have a funny haircut. (If I have headphones on, it means I'm out of spoons to socialize and am becoming one with The Goth Source. Thank you for understanding.)

Oh! I have the answer! I talk about it in my electric tits paper. It’s because a very large chunk of transhumanism is about hyperconformity—‘perfecting’ how well they fit existing norms—and not at all about transcending norms.

How did the tech bro crowd, growing up on stories of sci-fi, transhumanism, virtual reality and limitless ability to modify one's body, "biohacking," etc. end up becoming so viscerally anti-transgender? Truly boggles my mind.

I have still not regained the habit of posting on a site like this. I'm not sure if I actually want to.

Day 3 #ArtAdventCalendar & #InternationalDisabilitiesDay • I'm a disabled #embroidery artist whose work combines #anatomy and #symptomatology into #SciArt. Here is body map (2016), in which I stitched my neurological #MECFS symptoms freehand as I felt them.

The fact that I have a "casual" Weird Al t-shirt and a "fancy" Weird Al t-shirt sure says something about me.

My mom, upon hearing the "O Children" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds from my dad's iPod: "I should have known it was taken from your music, it's so depressing."
Using this as a start: what are your favorite examples of unconscious/unforced dad-or-mom shade about your musical tastes? Just something said immediately or off the cuff. Spill all your secrets!
I want to say, when I was a kid, shortly after we got cable, we were watching MTV (obviously back when they actually played music videos) and something by Aerosmith was playing.

My father, walking through the room said, "Is that Mick Jagger? No, wait, not ugly enough. Can't be him."

Blocked a "Bluesky update" account that was just pro-Tr*mp garbage. I see that they're missing the attention from the other site.

I attended the Landecker Digital Memory Lab (www.digitalmemorylab.com) opening today over Zoom and it was very gratifying to see the work from the Digital Holocaust Memory Project grow into this. The speeches were moving and thoughtful. They also focused a ton on AI. (1/9)

The past two weeks have made me grumpy. Here are the chicken and dumplings I've made to combat this.

I forgot to mention:

if you think libraries are going to save you, i got some bad news
But at least I know I can't count on anyone else coming to save us. The Democrats, the overall government, the legal system, and roughly half of the country isn't on my side or your side.

I find a modicum of relief in in finding that out.
