my name is Scotty and I've spent 20 years in love with the Power Pop genre. I'm going to post a #dailyFavoritePowerPopSong just to see how long i can go without running out.

Day 1: seems appropriate to start with the Paley Bros, since we lost Andy Paley this week.

I showed GET A LIFE to my wife around Xmas. Not only did she hate it (in the way that only your partner can totally dismiss something that you absolutely love), she was dumbfounded upon learning that it got TWO seasons
The Get a Life episode HOUSEBOY 2000 is on the YouTube stream and that montage set to Depeche Mode's "Master and Servant" has to be one of the craziest things anyone ever got on network tv.

- getting a new Raspberry Pi so I can stream UK TV in the living room

- using code to loop through digital repositories to find contemporary mentions of rock bands

- dyeing figured wood new colors has triggered (what I can only assume are) comparable to flashback effects from psychedelics use
u heard sharon, everyone post about their esoteric interests right fucking now. for the good of the community, we need to be hyperfixationmaxxing.
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts

immensely enjoying @grantmcphee.bsky.social's clipping-by-clipping tour of velvet underground history.
The Velvet Underground Popularity Myth 2.
Pt.1 1963-1965
I went a bit crazy with updating my Velvet Underground Myth. There's about 40 of these Substack things though 63-65 is short, every other one is a single month through the eyes of the local press.

The best part of Emma's keyboard repair videos is the frustrated swearing, because it's absolutely relatable

the plot of EVIL DEAD RISE hinges on a kid playing vinyl records from 1923 -- 25 years before microgroove phonographs were invented
#FilmSky, a quick question; what is the pettiest thing you have had to be annoyed at a film? I ask because I am watching The Gift from 2000, and the main character does divination with Zener Cards, which are not the same thing as Tarot at all. Why go for a more boring looking option?

sometimes I’ll make a joke to my wife and she’ll roll her eyes and ask if I’m “gonna post that one on bluesky.” I mean, yes, but her tone is very hurtful

a new (to me) audience recording of the Velvets in Provincetown, MA from the Exploding Plastic Inevitable with incredible harmonies on "I'm Not a Young Man Anymore" -- this is a de-mix/remix by me to bring up those incredible vocals

I've been messing around with dyeing curly maple lumber for less than a week and its...having some weird psychological effects on me?

I'll see a similar looking pattern out in The World, my brain flips a switch & it dances like tinted wavy grain

I guess this is what psychedlic flashbacks are like?

A Day in the Life of a Geriatric Millennial: i'm replacing my decaying DVD-Rs of Star Wars fanedits with blu ray burns of the 4K77/80/83 remasters.

I have seen the original trilogy hundreds of times and probably won't watch them again. But if I DO... these'll be here for me.

Real "oh my god, she admit it" moment here. Trump is treated as an uninteresting figure without agency so we can dump endless criticism on liberals for how they react to his "natural disaster." He "doesn't participate in moral frameworks" lmfao
