The Gwent Ornithological Society, founded in 1961, has grown to become one of the most active county bird clubs in Wales.
The first meeting of the Wood Warblers at Goytre House Wood, our nature reserve, was held today. Volunteers cleared vegetation around tree saplings, planted in 2022. Bird and bat boxes were mapped in preparation for activities next year. The weather was very kind to us. #birdingwales #gwentbirds

Massive Glossy Ibis arrival reaches Britain and Ireland
A huge Glossy Ibis influx is currently under way across Britain and Ireland, with large flocks appearing across a wide area. The arrival breaks all modern records for the species, which has been rapidly increasing across Western Europe in recent years and bred in Britain for the first time in 2022. On Monday 8 September, a staggering minimum of 605 ibis were recorded across Britain and Ireland.

Now that we've reached the end of the first survey season, make sure you enter your data by 21st September in order to be included in this year’s analysis! This analysis is the core purpose of the project, and only data submitted by that deadline can contribute to the first year report. #cudyllcymru

The society is devastated after a grass fire damaged a significant part of Goldcliff Lagoons. However, the reserve remains open, and there are plenty of birds showing.
