Retired. Based in South Wales, UK. Love nature esp. birds. RSPB member, National Trust member, BTO garden lister. Rarely go anywhere without my camera and a pocket of bird food. Nikon D500, Sigma 150-600mm my favourite combo.
Now that's an impressive hide! Tower hide at Steart Point, Bridgewater Nature Reserve, Somerset. Lots of Stonechats in the hedgerows. 🪶 #ukbirding #nature #ukwildlife #birdsofbluesky

Shoo! Mistle Thrush getting a Blackbird to leave the perch. Taken from my front garden 09/11/25. They were quite a distance away and it was a really dull grey rainy day. Very happy to get anything usable on a day like this. 🪶 #birdingwales #ukbirding #ukwildlife #nature #photography

Shwmae, hello. Kevin the Kite having lunch on the go today. 08/11/25. Clearly the local pond is now missing one of it's Coots or Moorhens. I think it's a Coot leg. What do you think? Moorhen picture 3, Coot picture 4. Taken from my back garden. 🪶 #birdingwales #ukbirding #ukwildlife #photography

Sometimes nature comes into the hides. Taken at Westhay Nature Reserve. Hornets nest in the hide nearest the disabled parking. 06/11/25. Luckily they are very docile as the nest is shutting down as colder weather comes in. It will not be reused as the new queens will start from scratch.

I'm sure fellow photographers will have been here. You see something about to happen and in your excitement camera settings go out of the window. White bird against a dark background. But don't despair, with a bit of fiddling about in your photo editor you can produce something that ain't half bad.

I was puzzled when I first saw this Grey Heron at Ham Wall in the Avalon Marshes. I wasn't expecting to see such a young bird so late in the year and for a moment wondered if it was a different Heron. 🪶 #ukbirding #ukwildlife #nikon

There's something quite magical about watching a Marsh Harrier quartering the reed beds. Their flight is almost "Owl like" and that bright staring eye will miss nothing. Taken at Ham Wall on the Avalon Marshes, 04/11/25. What a fantastic bird! 🪶 #ukbirding #wildlife #ukwildlife #photography #nikon

When a large bird like this Great Egret flies past this close, it's always a magical moment. Taken at Ham Wall on the Avalon Marshes, Somerset. It was a dull grey day, perfect for white birds against the sky! 04/11/25. 🪶 #ukbirding #wildlife #ukwildlife #nikond500 #photography

Female and male Sparrowhawks, taken in my garden near Cardiff, female last week and male back in February. The female is about the size of a feral pigeon and the male which is smaller is about the size of a Collared Dove. The difference in colour is striking! 🪶 #birdingwales #ukbirding

Here's a Dipper from Bryngarw Country Park on the banks of the River Garw. A gorgeous chocolate brown bird with a white breast and throat. They are the only songbirds that hunt for food underwater and their presence is a sign of good water quality. 🪶 #birdingwales #ukbirding

Common Redshank in winter plumage. Taken on a trip to Burry Port. It's part of a huge sandy estuary that attracts 1000's of migratory birds that overwinter in the area. Birds were distant because of low tide, but we'll be back again when the tide is right. 🪶 #birdingwales #ukbirding
