Ocean water shader
+ Added caustics to the ocean floor and used the second uv channel to add a mask for where the waves meet the shore to make them brighter. 🌊
I think it's finished now

Made a new water shader based on the water from Super Mario Sunshine/Galaxy. It's still crazy to me that this is all just based on a couple of noise textures, no lighting or anything.

Trying to not go a week without posting progress so here is my tutorial level with some flowing water and a tree. Most of my work this week has been on sound effects but I can't be bothered to make a video right now so here's a screenshot.

My game needed a safe, low stress environment to teach the basic mechanics, so I created a little tutorial island

Finally added some particles and sound effects. Even just minimal stuff such as this makes astronomical returns in gameplay feel.

I added the ability to jump out of a roll (in a 0.2 sec time frame) for extra height. Not sure if there will be much of a use case considering Chakram jumping gives far more height, but at least you don't have to put the Chakram down first, maybe this is something speedrunners can use to min max

Dynamic tail test
Godot 4.4 is absolutely goated for this.

Still working on collision, but it's so fun to just wiggle about and surprisingly easy to implement.

Kinda funny how collectable in games are usually ginormous, this bamboo is bigger than my character.

Here's a tutorial on how to do this for anyone who is googling it and comes across this post (I wish I had this 6 months ago)

What if I told you there is a way to get 2 sets of vertex colours in Godot?

I use one set of colors to blend textures together, and one to provide shading.

It took me far too long to work out how to do this, godot only provides one set normally.
